ORE BOYS: Lake Oswego Nips Lakeridge in OT to Clinch TRL

May 9th, 2009

Senior middie Chase Clausen scored the game-winning goal in the opening minute of overtime to give Lake Oswego a 6-5 victory over Lakeridge in an Oregon High School Lacrosse Association Three Rivers League game Friday night.

With the game tied, 5-5, the Lakers won the opening face-off to start overtime and immediately called timeout. Coming out of it, Clausen dodged and ripped a shot from about 12 yards to give Lake Oswego (12-4, 10-0 Three Rivers League) its second win over Lakeridge this season.

The victory also clinches the league title for the Lakers.

“It’s been the No. 1 goal for us from the outset,” Lake Oswego head coach Peter Lamb said. “It gives us home field in the playoffs and the crowd was awesome tonight, so hopefully we can continue that.”

Lakeridge (11-8, 9-2) had its five-game winning streak snapped.

Lake Oswego led 1-0 at halftime and 4-3 at the end of the third quarter before the game ended regulation even.

“It was pretty sloppy,” Lamb said. “You could tell both teams knew a lot was riding on the game. Our defense held strong forever, and even though we weren’t running our offense the way we wanted to, we still scored very timely goals.”
