LOU BOYS: Lafayette Downs Archbishop Rummel, 13-8
Senior attackman Blake Stelly registered a team-high six points on four goals and two assists to lead Lafayette to a 13-8 victory over Archbishop Rummel in a Louisiana High School Lacrosse League game Saturday.
Junior Chris Bellard, who moved from middie to attack, added four points on a goal and three assists, senior attackman Matt Hammond scored three times and senior middie Nick Bivins had a pair of goals to help the Lions (1-2) snap a two-game losing streak.
Junior middie Josh Weilbacher and sophomore middie Parker Graciana each finished with a goal and an assist, and sophomore middie Michael LaCour had a goal to round out the scoring for Lafayette.
Defensively, sophomore goalie Lane Thibodeaux saved 23 shots.
In defeat, Archbishop Rummel registered 31 shots on cage, but it wasn’t enough. The game was the season opener for Archbishop Rummel (0-2), which later in the day lost to unbeaten St. Thomas More, 14-1.
The game was tied, 2-2, at the end of the first quarter, Lafayette led 5-2 at halftime and the Lions led 10-7 going into the fourth quarter.
“I was pretty happy with the way we played,” Lafayette head coach Jeff Lowe said. “We had seven different players score, so it was a team effort. We played well. It was nice to see them put everything together.”
