MO BOYS: Ladue Wins MSLA Division II State Championship

May 29th, 2010

Senior middie Cameron Millstone scored a game-high four goals to lead top-seeded Ladue to a 14-7 victory over second-seeded Clayton in the Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association Division II state championship game Saturday afternoon at Lindenwood University.

Senior attackman Jack Rohan added four points on two goals and two assists, and senior attackman Sam Hurster had four points on a goal and three assists to help the Rams (16-1) win their first state championship in program history.

Ladue, which knocked off Division I semifinalist MICDS during the regular season, finished the season on a 11-game winning streak.

“We’ve had a number of kids who started as eighth graders and freshmen who have worked hard to get to this point,” Ladue head coach Jason Fauss said. “Their hard work has paid off with this state championship.”

Sophomore middie Chandler Millstone and junior middie Tommy Drier each scored twice, and freshman middie Russell Perry had a goal and an assist. Junior attackman Evan Schuster and senior attackman Chris Painter each had a goal to round out the offense.

In defeat, Gabe Nicolazzi finished with a team-high three points on two goals and an assist for Clayton, which finished the season 14-4. Two of the Greyhounds’ four losses were against Ladue.

Clayton led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter, but Ladue controlled it from there. The Rams finished the half on a 4-1 run to take a 6-4 lead at the midway point, and Ladue dominated the second half.

The Rams led 11-5 at the end of the third quarter and cruised to the finish in the final 12 minutes.

“Like the semifinal, we fell behind early,” Fauss said. “But we kept our composure and just kept doing what we do and got the win.”
