ORE HS: La Salle Prep Announces New Lacrosse Program

May 4th, 2010

From Press Releases

La Salle Catholic College Preparatory of Milwaukie, Ore., is pleased to announce that boys’ lacrosse has been added as the school’s 21st athletic program. Beginning in the 2010-2011 school year, La Salle will be the only Oregon 4A classification school to offer boys’ lacrosse.

La Salle will field a boys’ JV team for the inaugural season. The Falcons will play their home games on La Salle’s artificial turf field, installed in the fall of 2009. The boys’ lacrosse program will be associated with La Salle’s athletic department and not viewed as a club sport. Although a league has not been designated for La Salle, the Falcon boys’ lacrosse program is anticipating playing schools from the Three Rivers League.

“Lacrosse is a sport that is gaining popularity at the youth and high-school level,” La Salle Prep Director of Athletics Brian Crawford said. “Over the past few years, we have had a number of students ask us when we would create a lacrosse team. Last summer, when we installed the new turf field, we included markings for lacrosse. This year, several boys expressed a strong desire to create a team, and in response to their requests the school is making a significant financial contribution to help create a lacrosse program at La Salle.

“It will be an exciting addition to our athletic program. We look forward to finding a dynamic coach who can help build a competitive program.”

La Salle is currently conducting a search for a head boys’ lacrosse coach. Interviews are expected to be held the week of May 24, 2010. An employment opportunity posting can be found on La Salle’s website at www.lshigh.org
