SoCAL BOYS: Kyle Stanich Signs With Colgate

Oaks Christian senior Kyle Stanich has signed a national letter of intent to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Colgate University.

Stanich, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound middie, was an honorable-mention selection among seniors in the first WSL Elite 25 boys player rankings. He said he also considered Brown and Notre Dame but chose Colgate because he meshed well with the coaching staff.

“I loved the coaches,” Stanich said. “Coach (Jim) Nagel said he really values a defensive middie. He said he likes how I carry myself.”

Stanich said he met the Colgate coaching staff while playing for the West Coast Starz club team, and he credited Scott Hochstadt and Xander Ritz for helping pave the way to upstate New York.

“I’m not going to lie, it’s going to be really tough,” Stanich said of making the transition to the Division I college game.

“I’m never going to expect to have it easy, and that’s why I have so much drive. I know what’s coming, so it’s going to push me to train harder now and in the summer.”
