LOU-TEX BOYS: Kirby Ayres Leads Hillcrest Past Caddo Magnet

February 21st, 2010

Senior attackman Kirby Ayers registered a game-high five points on four goals and an assist to lead Hillcrest to a 12-2 victory over Caddo Magnet in a Texas vs. Louisiana interstate game Saturday night in North Texas.

Junior attackman Trevor Atkins added four goals, senior middie Luke Fechman scored twice and junior middie Mark Hartman had a goal and an assist to help the Panthers (2-1) win their second straight. Sophomore middie Will Look had a goal to round out the scoring for Hillcrest.

Defensively, junior goalie Ward Weber saved 11 shots.

“I thought we were a lot sharper than we were against Colleyville,” Hillcrest head coach Bill Elliott said. “We had good intensity.”

In defeat, senior middies Davis Knight and Stewart Patterson each scored a goal for Caddo Magnet (0-1), which lost its season opener.

In the cage, goalie Gregory Ewing saved 16 shots.

“We definitely didn’t give up,” Caddo Magnet head coach Michael Brand said. “We played the entire game. We know Texas lacrosse is a above Louisiana, so we probably won’t see another team like this all year, except for Highland Park II next weekend.”
