AZ HS: Kevin Krieger Takes Over at Tucson Salpointe

Tucson Salpointe has named Kevin Krieger as the new head coach of its boys varsity lacrosse team.
Krieger, 26 takes over for Mike Storie and Dean Greenberg, who were denied their application to coach in the Arizona Youth Lacrosse League this season.
A native of Chandler, Ariz., Krieger played four seasons of NCAA Division I lacrosse as an attackman at the Air Force Academy from 2003 to 2006, where he became one of the first Arizona natives to ever play lacrosse at the Division I level.
Krieger was an assistant coach at Salpointe the last two seasons under Storie and Greenberg, but the pair was not allowed back in by the league after leading the Lancers to a 12-0 record and the AYLL Division II state championship in 2009.
According to multiple sources, Greenberg was suspended for the state-title game last season but was allowed to coach it after Storie, an attorney, went to court and filed an injunction. That, apparently, did not sit well with the league.
Krieger had originally signed on to be an assistant coach at the University of Arizona, but he left for the opportunity to become the new head coach at Salpointe. Krieger, who will be a head coach for the first time, takes over a program that has been promoted to Division I, graduated just one senior and returns all 10 starters.
“It’s a unique and challenging opportunity to hopefully continue the tradition that’s been created here,” Krieger said.
