NorCAL BOYS: Kevin Downs Commits to Mount St. Mary's

St. Ignatius Prep senior defenseman Kevin Downs has verbally committed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Mount St. Mary’s.

Downs said he also considered Lehigh, Lafayette and Fairfield but chose the Emmitsburg, Md.-based school because it was the best fit.

“It had everything I wanted,” Downs said. “I wanted a little bit more than the lacrosse aspect. It’s a small school, a Catholic school, it has a good business school and a good Division I college program.”

Downs is one of five St. Ignatius Prep players who will be playing NCAA Division I lacrosse next season. He joins seniors Will Fredericks (Loyola), Nick Miller (Bryant), Billy Mattimore (Bucknell) and Carlton Fisher (Lehigh).

Downs added that he’s pumped to head out East, and he realizes the hard work in front of him.

“I’m definitely excited,” Downs said. “We’ll see how this season goes. I’m pretty confident. I’ve got to put in my time to earn a spot.”
