TEX BOYS: Junji Wiener Commits to Chestnut Hill
February 19th, 2009
Memorial senior middie Junji Wiener has committed to play NCAA Division II lacrosse at Chestnut Hill College.
When he takes the field for the Philadelphia area-based school, Wiener will become the first player from the Houston-based Memorial program to play NCAA-sanctioned lacrosse.
“He’s one of those middies who has really worked hard on his game outside of practice,” Memorial head coach Mike Newton said. “He has got a collegiate type of shot on the run, right and left-handed, and he faces off. His shot is very hard and accurate.”
Chestnut Hill is in the process of building its first team that will take the field in the spring of 2010. Newton said he thinks Wiener has the potential to immediately make an impact.
“I think he’s going to do great,” Newton said. “He’s a great offensive middie, he’s very versatile and he knows how to get open off-ball. I think he’s going to be a contributor at the next level.”
