NorCAL BOYS: 'Juice' Sparks Acalanes Upset of No. 24 Amador
March 20th, 2010
The Acalanes boys lacrosse team laid the Juice on No. 24 Amador Valley on Friday night.
Sophomore middie Justice “Juice” Fleischman scored a career-high eight goals, including the game-winner, to lead the Gamecocks to a 12-11 upset victory over the Dons in a CIF-North Coast Section game.
Fleischman was unstoppable, playing what head coach Brent Ringwood called, “The game of his life.” Among his multitude of goals were two in the final six minutes of the fourth quarter that put Acalanes in front. Amador Valley had an answer for the first but not the second.
The game was tied, 10-10, when Fleischman scored with 5:45 remaining in regulation. Amador Valley drew level with 3:17 to play, but Fleischman answered with the go-ahead goal, his eighth of the night, with 1:58 remaining.
Amador Valley regained possession and fired numerous shots at the Acalanes cage in a bid for overtime. But junior goalie Harrison Bagdan made two of his 15 saves down the stretch to keep the Gamecocks (3-2) in front.
Senior attackman Andrew Atkins added seven points for Acalanes on a goal and six assists, senior attackman Logan Quinn scored twice and junior middie Trevor Felt had a goal to round out the offense.
Amador Valley (2-1) had its season-opening, two-game winning streak snapped.
Amador Valley led 6-4 at the end of a wild first quarter, the Dons led 7-6 at halftime and it was 9-9 going into the fourth quarter. The teams then traded goals twice before the Juice brought his own brand of Justice to the Bay Area to give the Gamecocks their first-ever win over a WSL Top 25 team.
“It’s the first time we’ve beaten one of the top EBAL teams,” Ringwood said. “It’s a great comeback after Monte Vista thrashed us earlier in the week. It was a huge team effort. Juice had the game of his life.”
