AZ HS: John Silkey Steps Down at Chaparral After 2 Seasons
Chaparral head coach John Silkey has stepped down after two seasons at the Scottsdale-based school.
Silkey, 30, led the Firebirds to the Arizona Youth Lacrosse League Division I state championship game in each of his two seasons. Chaparral won the state title this spring after falling in the title game in 2008.
A replacement has not yet been named.
Silkey said he will be temporarily relocating to Karlskrona, Sweden, where he is enrolling in an international graduate program at the Blekinge Institute of Technology.
“When I arrived, I fully intended for this to be a long-term position for me,” said Silkey, who will be heading to Sweden in August. “But my professional circumstances changed, and I got the chance to enroll in this program. It was a no-brainer. I had to take it.”
