AZ HS: Pair Takes Over Coaching at Tucson Catalina Foothills
December 10th, 2009
Tucson Catalina Foothills has named Jeff Pfeifer and Matt Hourigan as the new co-head coaches of its boys varsity lacrosse team.
The pair takes over for legendary coach Mickey-Miles Felton, who stepped down to return to the University of Arizona.
A native of Montreal, Pfeifer, 47, played three seasons of college lacrosse. He played in Canada at Brock University in Ontario in 1982 and 1984, and he also played one season of club lacrosse in the United States at North Carolina State in 1983.
A native of Ohio, Hourigan, 25, played four seasons of NCAA Division III lacrosse at Denison University, Pfeifer said.
Pfeifer has been a head coach at the collegiate and high school levels in Canada, where he led the men’s program at the University of Regina for three seasons. Over the past two seasons, he was an assistant coach at the University of Arizona.
The pair takes over a team that graduated just one senior and is the early favorite in Division II.
“We’re real excited,” Pfeifer said. “It’s a good bunch of boys. It’s a team that’s got a lot of good leadership. Mickey left them in pretty good shape with their fundamentals.”
