TEX HS: Jared Venia Replaces Gary Dennington at Coppell
Coppell High School has named Jared Venia as the new head coach of its boys varsity lacrosse team.
Venia, 27, takes over for Gary Dennington, who led the Cowboys to a Texas High School Lacrosse League Division II state championship in his only year as head coach.
A native of Marysville, Mich., Venia played four seasons of MCLA Division I lacrosse as a defenseman at Central Michigan from 2002 to 2005, he said. Venia served as an assistant coach at Greenhill School last season.
This will be his first varsity head coaching job, and he takes over a team that is the early favorite in Division II.
“I’m very excited about it,” Venia said. “I think we’ve got a tremendous amount of talent. I’m looking forward to stepping in, growing these kids and hopefully brining home a Division II title.”
