Competitive high school lacrosse will enter new Western territory in 2009 with the addition of the West Des Moines program.
Unofficially named the Valley Tigers, West Des Moines will draw from Valley High School and Waukee High School.
Former Kansas State player Zach Zielonko has been named the program’s first head coach. Tyler Nielsen, a former player at Augustana, and Adam Edgington, who founded the Central Iowa Lacrosse Association, have been brought on as assistant coaches.
West Des Moines will field a JV team this season that will compete in the Nebraska High School Lacrosse Association.
