All Idaho San Diego
Wow - looking at the San Diego results All Idaho got totally used down there last weekend. What happened -- were there no Timberline players there to carry the team or have all the talented players/coaches in Boise figured out that All Idaho is a total waste of time & money?
All-Idaho
I was just reading the story on the all-idaho game and thought it was funny that it was the timberline guys carrying that team. Why don't the valley teams just send their own teams down there, or better yet just send timberline down there to represent us. I bet if timberline went down their with their entire team and their coach they would do better than all-idaho. from what i hear all-idaho is a joke no one shows up at the all-idaho practices and here we have guys that could careless going down to be seen by ncaa recruiters. I think its time the valley woke up and realized that all-idaho is not the way to get noticed especially in group 2.
What's funny to me is that
What's funny to me is that you read a 2 paragraph blog on one game (a loss) and you've got it all figured out? (You sound like a T'line alum... and you do realize that Centennial has had a better run in the TVLL than Timberline has don't you?) All Idaho won 4 games and I haven't seen the box scores for the 4 T'line short sticks on the roster for any of the other 6 games. BTW, the 3 best poles and starters were Centennial, Eagle and a Boise player and no Timberline poles would have broken into that starting 3. There was one attackman from Tline, etc. I think the midfield had 3 T'line guys in the 2 deep but that's not true of the other positions. Wilkes from Centennial was one of the top middies on that roster and I bet he started. And that's without Thomas, Mendiola and a couple other guys that should have been on that roster.
And practices in the summer are much harder to get all the guys there each time because of family vacations and summer jobs.
So your premise is off base, but your conclusion is still valid IMO. The future is for the top 4-5 schools to raise funds and send their varsity squads to these tournaments (if their coaching staffs can make it and that's a big if). That's what's starting to happen in Cali already, with the best San Diego and Bay area schools forming club teams. But don't think that means they'll do better. It will be best for the HS teams to develop for the TVLL but the way to have a better team representing the state of Idaho is to hand pick the rosters for the elite team and then recruit them and their parents hard to make sure you get them all on the roster. There are easily 6-7 guys that should be on that roster that aren't.
Still, a 4-3 overall record is better than half the teams in the field in Sonoma so it's not all that bad for a small state like Idaho that's late to HS lacrosse compared to the other states. And btw, all the top teams and all 4 semifinalists in the Sonoma tournament were all star teams, not HS teams.
My 2 cents...
First; The All-Idaho boys should get a nice slap on the back for going positive (4 wins - 3 losses) in Sonoma. Secondly; We do have some good talent in the valley that can compete at the higher levels. Yes Timberline seems to have the corner on the market right now but I believe its because of how they keep challenging themselves by traveling out of state and playing tough opponents - for most teams & players in Idaho who take the game seriously though, All-Idaho is the only chance they get to play out of state and get noticed. Idaho coaches need to step it up, get some fundraising together and take their teams traveling and / or invite out of state competition to come here and play; perhaps BSU LAX can sponsor a tournament like Westminster does, get some press, hype it up. "opportunities are made, not given".
Wow - not sure what you read
Wow - not sure what you read but from the WSL site it looks like the Tline players "carried" the team to two victories against teams that went 0-10 in the first round. Where were the Tline greats during the 15-0 a$$kicking by the Arizona team that wound up ranked 5th in their division? I'm not sure I would beat my chest about ruling the losers bracket.
Congrats to Timberline
The returning champions played with confidence down the stretch in the TVLL and they deserve their state title.
All League/Allstars selections
All League

Allstars
http://files.leagueathletics.com/Text/Documents/6777/13989.pdf
First off, we have way to many all league selections.
ex. 18 attackmen recieved some recognition. basically half the starting attackmen in the league. 22 defense mentioned, more than half the starting d-poles in the league. absolutely ridiculous. how about we just give everyone a little trophy at the end of the season. plus timberlines back up goalie makes honorable mention but their starter doesn't get anything?? what is up with that.
Secondly,
honestly i know alot of people are going to hate me saying this, but for example how is skyview's attackmen ahead of nash or boschulte; or why is vallivues lsm 1st team while someone like taylor britton is honorable mention; for some examples.
feel good politics make me sick. the best players should get the awards, even if they are all from the top schools. wood river (44% sv pctg) and skyview's goalies making the allstar list while eagle, Timberline, Bk, eagle, and centennials don't. honestly it just doesn't make any sense to me. Pitzer, Brown, Patrick, and Wallace are all much better goalies than the WR kid and most of them better than the skyview kid. Pitzer had the best save percentage in the league and he isn't even in the honorable mention, yet WR goalie is along with timberlines backup.
I could keep going but i'm getting too angry.
year after year stupid selections are made and the process needs to change.
All League Selections
Several have mentioned the league selection process. I would like to offer to you that the ILA would be open to any suggestions you have on how to make that process better. Please understand that the process currently used was one that was developed through trial and error over the last 10-12 years by Tom Williams and others. I think we realize it is not a perfect system as it is totally dependent on Varsity head coaches who arguably would have a difficult time knowing who to vote for when they only play each team 1x and they are most likely concentrating on their own players during that game.
We would be open to other suggestions if you have them.
Unfortunately, no matter what the system I am quite sure that there will always be people who are unhappy with the selections. That is just the nature of a process such as this.
If anyone has suggestions on a new process for All League selections, please email them to idaholacrosseassociation@yahoo.com and we will definitely take them into serious consideration.
Sincerely,
ILA
"All" league selections
The ILA can sugarcoat this as much as they want and IDlax can be politically correct as much as he sees fit. However I'm going to talk about the elephant in the room. ILA officials and TVLL followers all know that teams like Vallivue and WR for lack of a better word suck. They simply cannot compete with the big six. It might not be fair but lifes not fair. Hopefully as lacrosse grows in Idaho the competition will level out and players' skill level will increase so that all teams in the league can have at least one honest true all star. That's just not the case right now though. Please don't patronize us about how your doing the best you can to represent the "best" talent in Idaho, its painfully obvious your merely trying to cover your own hide from upset parents. My suggestion to the ILA is make your choices off truth and fact. Let the best players play. If you want to help teams like Vallivue and Wood River than setup clinics like Capitals team did with Mccall's club. Let the strongest train the weakest. I doubt teams like Boise and Tline would be adamently against an off season afternoon clinic.
WOW
Those are some crazy selections. How did Jordan Smith of Timberline make Honorable Mention over any of the other poles at Timberline? What about Cody Regnart, he constantly took on the best offensive player that the other team could muster. It looks like the selection committee just took the entire varsity roster from each team and then just pulled names out of a hat. I recognize that the Timberline coaching staff did an excellent job on both sides of the ball with a particular nod to the defense that is stellar every year but to have so few players make the all-league teams is really an insult to the players at Timberline high.
You are not alone man, and
You are not alone man, and some of it is politics and some of it is coaches doing their best to screw the thing up. Seriously. The ILA is the one asking for 3 teams and a pile of honorable mentions. It should be 1st and second teams with one team of honorable mentions. Until we do that we're not a legit league IMO. But the head coaches need to be accoutable for those picks too.
As for the picks, the first team isn't too far off but that attack from Skyview doesn't belong on 1st team, he's pretty good but second team would have been adequate recognition. The LSM thing is crazy, only Britton or Riebe from eagle were legit 1st teamers.
We're still too much like youth soccer where everyone gets recognition and girls get to play. It's past time to grow up.
Congrats Timberline
Great game by both teams! Good luck against Lake City.
Looking at the stats, Sayre
Looking at the stats, Sayre is only one point ahead of Cody for the league title but Cody has one less game played so it seems like a neck & neck race. Do they vote after the playoffs so performance in the post season gets counted in?
Sayre 125 Groundballs! Wow!
Looking over the stats... Sayre should be proud of triple digit ground-balls in the regular season. 125 GB, wow! That must have been a major advantage for BHS this year.
Predictions?
On All Americans for this year?
Sayre is playing on another
Sayre is playing on another level. He deserves a nomination. Baker has hot and cold games, he's inconsistent so I'd say no on him too. But you can't deny the kid's skills; you don't vote on personality. There are a few really good players just behind Sayre like Cody Cantrell but I don't know if they're AA's or not.
On D I'd say Poulson at Centennial is as good as I've seen and the kid on Eagle who's a junior is the best shutdown on ball defender I've seen this year but he's not there overall yet (maybe next year).
Is there 2 each year or does it vary?
I'm going to have to
I'm going to have to disagree about the Eagle junior as the best on ball defender. Taylor Britton is a ridiculous on ball defenseman. The title game is proof. He basically shut down Sayre Thomas. The eagle pole is good, but I believe Taylor is better. He's very hot and cold though, just as Baker is.
uhhmm.
I am pretty sure there are 2 regular AAs and one academic for every year, so 3 total. Sayre is and has always been a good player, but for kids like Cody they need to look at career stats not just senior year stats. Some kids have been leading teams with stats their whole lax careers like Kevin Doty from MVHS, Erik Boschulte from MHS, im sure there are others.
first off
first off you stole my name haha
second, preseason rankings are usually speculation so it doesn't surprise me there off
Pre-season rankings....U gotta be kiddin me
Preseason Top 10: 1. Meridian, 2. Timberline, 3. Eagle, 4. Boise, 5. Bishop Kelly, 6. Centennial, 7. Mountain View, 8. Capital, 9. Wood River, 10. Rocky Mountain.
You got Timberline right (barely), but other than that what a joke.
Maybe it's time to leave the politics out of the sport and let the record speak for itself. And while I'm sure Mr. Baker is a fine player - there are at least ten Treasure Valley players that deserve a D1 scholarship before Mr. Baker. Let the records speak for themselves.
Preseason polls are major
Preseason polls are major league guesses and in Nate's defense it's the valley coaches that helped to come up with the guesses.
The problems with Meridian (IMO) are the change in coaching and a suspect D in front of Baker. Meridian and Boise are the major misses in the poll, the rest is within reason.
Pre-Season Polls
Okay- no offense to whoever wrote the pre-season article. Honestly I'm just happy to have any press on Idaho Lacrosse (that doesn't involve a girl wanting to play on the boys team).
You might be right about a weak D in front of Baker - Good Point. I also agree that Meridian and Boise were way off, but what about Centennial? Don't count them out. They've lost some strange ones and won some tough ones. They may still have what it takes to finish strong - a pre-season #6 ranking was an insult.
I never count out Centennial
I never count out Centennial but with a new head coach there too (my choice for tool of the year with Russ Wheeler) I had some doubts. They always have good poles though and with that tiny kid in goal they are tough to score on.
To the one calling out the new Eagle coach as clueless, you are the clueless one. That team is night and day better than they were last year. The offense has a scheme, set plays and a look far superior to the team the past few seasons. And the defense is much better too. You may not like the guy (obviously) but that man has made a difference and I think they only graduate 2 starters so look out next year.
So..
Top 8 qualify for playoffs
Top 8 qualify for playoffs and it's based on TVLL standings. Head to head breaks tie records.
Nate
I think Bishop Kelly's preseason games in Washington aren't accounted for yet. Not sure if they were D2 teams they played or not.
Preseason Games
My bad, I did a little
My bad, I did a little digging and found their website. Looks like it was a catholic school thing and they were 20 minute running clocks. Non issue.
rankings
With the Timberline upset, is Boise the new number one? Or does everyone still think Timberline is the team to beat?
Boise is the new #1 and for
Boise is the new #1 and for now the team to beat. But it looks like any of the top 4-5 can win this year, which is kind of cool. My money is still on Timberline until they lose again though.
Should make for some great
Should make for some great games in the next few weeks as teams battle for the playoff slots - anybody know what the tiebreaker rules are for teams with the same record? I would guess head to head results.
...
if a guy wanted to play a girls sport such as volleyball or softball, they wouldn't even hesitate in saying no...the only reason this has gone anywhere is because people are trying to turn it into some feminist showdown
