SAVE OUR SPORT

I hear there are some girls trying to play BOYS high school lacrosse this year!  What a bunch of crap!  I signed up and my parents PAID for me to play in a BOYS league.  Now a bunch of liberals and lawyers want everYone to be equal and not have there feeling hurt and want to let girls into a BOYS sport when they have there own league.  If you are a girl and want to play with boys then form your own CO-ED league--until then stay off my field and stop trying to ruin my sport!!

What?

There are plenty of girls teams in the valley, why would they let girls play in a boys league? And why would they want to at all? The sport is a club sport, and girls can go to the closest school with a team if their school does not have one.

Any other predictions

So the West is the best this season?  And Eagle and Meridian are the class of the West.  I believe that both Eagle and Meridian will be better teams this year.  It is hard to ignore all the offensive firepower that Timberline is returning.

My only concern with Meridian is defense.  Baker and the defense looked pretty ordinary against Timberline and Centennial last year.  They will need to make some defensive stops to have a chance this year.

Eagle was the opposite they make defensive stops, they didn't seem to have the offensive answer to win the closer games.  Hopefully, they have improved and can make it to the title game.

BK graduated a lot of key players, not sure how they will be this year. But I'm sure they will be competitive. They always are.

Boise has some players back not sure they have enough of a supporting cast on BOTH ends of the field to make it the end.  Sayre will score but who else will contribute in scoring?

Centennial lost alot of players to graduation but return probably the best defenseman and midfielder in the state.  They will need help from the supporting players to score and goaltending.

I guess some of these questions will be answered in the next 3 months.

As much as I hate to say it,

As much as I hate to say it, Meridian is gonna take it this year. Last year they were the sleepers and they surprised everyone and finished 3rd in the league. They lost a few players but they are returning all their impact players. Now don't get me wrong, it will still be a very tough year for them but if Meridian has ever had a year to be state champions, this is it.

Meridian

IMHO meridian has a great chance this year as well. But I have heard rumors that Erik Boschulte is moving to Midfield and Tre Jarboe is no longer playing for their team this year. If this is true then they will have a whole new starting attack line, which could be a very big roadblock for the team offensively.

I could see Eagle, Meridian, and Mountain View being contenders for the west side this year. All three teams did not lose many players and played close games with one another last year.

If the rumor about

If the rumor about Boshulte that you mentioned is true, there is a big possibility it could create an aggressive and very offensive midfield with the combination of him and Mendiola. However I also agree that it could cause severe problems with their attack line. The loss of Tre Jarbo will also be a shock to the attack line. I guess we will have to wait to see what develops with that.

Regardless of what team from the west side goes big this year, I would just like to see a new team as state champions. We need a west side champ.

Hard to argue that they could

Hard to argue that they could be the ones this year.  I think they're in the top4 preseason and it will come down to the coaching change and the poles in front of Baker.   I think if Rodrigue was still there I'd like their chances even better.

One team from the west end of the valley, either Meridian or Eagle, is going to be there in the finals I think.

Uhm - panties are not in a

Uhm - panties are not in a bunch - just using some facts to point out why your prediction sucks.

facts

disguised as your opinions.  Anger doesn't make them facts any more than my opinions.  We'll see in a few months.

It's a prediction

Panties all in a bunch over a prediction?  We'll see in a few months if I'm crazy or not.

And Britton is a good LSM, he's not one of the best D poles coming back because he doesn't play close D.  T'line lost their best 4 poles for close D.  Those are facts, not ragging on T'line.   Their goalie is not one of the top3-4 goalies, last year he had terrific D in front of him and teams scrambling to play catch up the entire game.

T'line will be a semifinalist for sure.  They might repeat, but I'm guessing they don't.

Sorry for the supposed

Sorry for the supposed flustering on my part.

I've heard from multiple sources that Britton is playing close D, LSM, and facing off, so we'll see what impact he has this year.

After looking at some tape, the Timberline goalie DID benefit a ton from the tremendous defense in front of him. Nonetheless, a year of starting will be a ton better than not. He's not in the top 5 in the valley.

My semifinalists:

Timberline-two great attackmen, plus two very high quality middies in Cantrell and Reynolds. If the defense can gel, and Britton plays like he should, Timberline should be solid this year.

Boise-All-American candidate Sayre Thomas will be a definite leader of the team, and a major offensive force in the league. Boise also returns a very solid goalie in Litster(sp), a great close defenseman in Ryan Erstad, and a very underrated attackman in Sam Hardison.

Meridian-Micheal Baker, nuff said.

Eagle-Incredibly experienced underclass leads this team to the TVLL playoffs. Standout Jordan Pitzer will keep them in every game this year.

Championship prediction-Timberline vs. Eagle.

Timberline -

Timberline - “goaltending could kill them though” - the way it killed them all the way to last year’s state championship?

Meridian - “the most athletic midfielder in Mendiola who doesn't lose too many faceoffs and is unstoppable one on one” - averaged 2.29 goals per game last year--the only thing unstoppable about him is his mother’s mouth on the sidelines.

Eagle - “played for All Idaho this winter so they can't be too bad” - All Idaho got embarrassed in the Elite Division in San Diego in Jan - ZERO wins --playing travel lacrosse only means you have money, not necessarily the talent to back it up.

Boise/Mt View/BK - “two proven scorers with Thomas and Hardison”- (averaged 1.76 and .29 goals per game last year)--see above comment on All Idaho --“good coach Alan Rodrigue” - third team he’s coached in 3 years--what up with that?

Prediction - Timberline might start slow rebuilding their defense but too much offense for anyone to keep up with. Repeat.

Why does everybody rag on

Why does everybody rag on Timberlines defense? They have one of the best returning poles in the state, plus a few kids that logged extensive minutes last season. The goalie situation shouldn't really be talked about a whole lot. A state championship as a freshman should speak for itself, but I digress.

IMHO, it's going to be a 3-team race between: Timberline, Eagle, and Centennial.

TVLL 2010

Almost time.  Could be a season to mark change in the TVLL from the Centennial-Timberline show, or it could easily be the same again this year.

I think there are 4 schools with pretty legit hopes coming into the season (for the TVLL and State, since it seems the North is down and they couldn't beat the south when they were up).  After that I think there are 2-3 schools that could be right there too.

My top 4:

Timberline - they get the returning champ slot. They lost a ton, but Cody Cantrell is going to surprise folk at mid and he's got Levi to play alongside and they have the 2 good attackmen.  Depth, defense and goaltending could kill them though.

Centennial - they're always there no matter who graduates. They could slip anytime but I don't think it's this year. They have the real good midfielder Wilkes coming back and their D is always good. Another new coach this year though and that could hurt them.

Meridian - best goalie, and the most athletic midfielder in Mendiola who doesn't lose too many faceoffs and is unstoppable one on one. Two solid attackmen too.  But marginal poles and no depth and a new coach in Baker's older brother.  Not sure how that's all going to work but they were close last year and basically everyone's back.

Eagle - good goaltending, and good midfielders and defensemen coming back.  Attack is the question but two potential starters played for All Idaho this winter so they can't be too bad.  New coach is a wildcard, hear good things and he's experienced but will the team gel behind him and learn toughness they seemed to lack in the past. They could look ugly early this season and look great at the end. Lots of depth but few seniors.  Probably a year away.

Boise/Mt View/BK are all right there and could make this the most balanced TVLL ever.  Boise and BK both lost a ton and have holes to fill and little depth but Boise will have a good defense and they have two proven scorers with Thomas and Hardison. Boise has good and stable coaching too and that could be the reason they're in the finals again but I don't think so. Mt View comes back intact and has good coach Alan Rodrigue taking over so they will improve but how much.

Based on coaching stability I think Timberline is back in the final, but this year they lose to whoever gets in to play them.  Meridian, Eagle or Cenntennial.

"for the TVLL and State,

"for the TVLL and State, since it seems the North is down and they couldn't beat the south when they were up

2007-

Coeur D' Alene- 4. Centennial- 2

Coeur D' Alene- 6. Eagle- 5

Coeur D' Alene- 10. Boise- 2

Lake City- 9. Boise- 5

Lake City- 15. Eagle- 7

Yeah really looks like the North couldn't beat the south when they were up. ;)

North is bad this year. Gonzaga Prep and Lake City will both be decent. Will probably be a good competitive league, ending with whoever is the champion getting mopped up by the Southern team in Coeur D' Alene this year.

MVHS lax team

Mountain View is getting a plethora of new coaches this year, including former Boise and Meridian coach Alan R. as head coach. Alan is bringing some new coaches into the program this year, and many of the former coaches are returning to help out. The team is looking great so far as returning players, only one starting player from each position is missing, but the depth of the team is struggling as always. I see them as a sleeping giant this year; they have never really done well in the regular season, but have had many close losses to BK and Eagle in the past seasons, many by 1 or 2 goals in the late game. Don’t count them out of the run this season.

Mountain View

IMHO, their only player worth mentioning is Kevin Doty. While he may be good, the defense is suspect and he can't carry the team. I see a first round playoff exit.

GAP IS CLOSING

I feel that the gap between Timberline and Centennial and the next tier of teams is getting smaller and will continue to get smaller.  Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Mountain View all have the potential to upset Timberline or Centennial this year.  I guess as the talent level becomes more equitable coaching could become a bigger factor.

As for the comment that there are only 2-3 legitimate head coaches in the Valley...I find that hard to believe.  There might only be 2-3 legitimate that are willing or able to due towork schedules or the desire to put in the time required.  My recommendation is...if you get a coach you like treat them well and do your best to make the coach/team/parent dynamic work as best as possible.

Unless you have intimate knowledge of the relationship between Mr. Blanchard and the Timberline parents...I wouldn't comment.  They ALL looked pretty happy last year after they won the championship game.

Sayre is a talented player and to say he bought his way onto a travel squad sound like a jealous competitor.  Sure, it costs money to play lacrosse and even more to play on a travel squad.

If Idaho lacrosse wants to get to the next level we will have to pool resources to make ALL players and coaches better.  Maybe then out of state teams will WANT to come to Idaho to get more than 1-2 competitive games.

It's going to be a good year

It's going to be a good year for the valley. I see 3 to 4 legit teams contending.

Other than the news on Greg

Other than the news on Greg quitting Eagle your posting sounds like you should really stop using mind altering drugs . . ..

Eagle High to get new head coach

Head coach Greg Keyes has resigned at Eagle High I've heard.  I've also heard that there are 2-3 very solid candidates looking to get the job.

From what I have seen watching this team play a few game in the past couple years, all they've needed is a more organized offense and defense.  They have relied on the skills of their players, and that's gotten them to 3rd or so in the league but the better coached teams beat them almost every time.

The west end of the valley will be the strongest next year and a new Eagle coach could put them over the top.  Meridian, Mt View and Eagle will all be at the top and Centennial is always solid.

Before you start declaring a

Before you start declaring a team like Mountain View a top contender dont you think they should prove something? all they have proved is they don't know how to use a quality player like Doty.  Meridian has a few decent scorers and a great goalie but you can't leave a goalie on an island all year long and expect to win, not to mention their committment from their players and even coaches make them at best a .500 and as far as Eagle goes no one can deny they have the numbers to be a top team but lets not kid ourseleves their coach to player ratio is horrible and they have kids on that roster that arne't getting developed the way some of the more averaged and under average sized teams kids do.  If I were an Eagle player I would want to get to a program like Rocky Mountain that is on the uprise.  Rocky Mountain has a great facility and could use some more numbers.  The fact of the matter is to have the top three teams selected is very premature at this stage.  Let's not forget Boise has a solid group coming back lead by Sayre and Timberline is still loaded with young talent which in my eyes was the strength of that team last year. Andrew and Nash are gunners and they have their goalie who proved he could play when he was tested along with some great middies that peaked towards the end of the season like Levi Reynolds and some other stand out players.  All I'm saying is don't count Boise and Timberline, especially Timberline.

Eagle 2010

Transfer to Rocky?  Are you serious?!  You obviously aren't aware of what's going on at Rocky.  I agree that Greg needed more assistant coaching help, because the players weren't developing as needed but I spoke to two different parents last week that said their boys were learning a ton from him already and that he was a very different head coach (in a good way). His resume is pretty impressive, I saw it on the EHS website.

The past 2 seasons their best talent has been too young but that's not a good excuse anymore.  They will make the semi finals for TVLL at a minimum if the new coach is that good.

The Mt View thing is based on something I heard at the championship game  last May.  Some family from Vegas was supposedly moving there with 3 HS lax players and their dad played in college. They were supposed to be very good players.  It could be enough to get them to Meridian's level.

Boise isn't even going to be

Boise isn't even going to be as good as they were last year. Sayre isn't that great. He trys too hard to be "d-1". Boise's defense won't be annyytthhiinngg special. Timberline might be good. The offense might still put up numbers with Nash and Andrew but T-lines defense is going to struggle at first with only their LSM and goalie returning.

It's going to be a fun season.

Timberline will be good but

Timberline will be good but lost a lot of senior D so hopefully their O can keep lighting up the scoreboard.  Really wouldn't worry about Boise - Sayre is just a one man show who thinks he is good and has a mommy to buy him onto the so called "Starz" team which really can't be that great if he made it.  I'd look for Centennial and Timberline to duke it out again with maybe Eagle playing the spoiler if they can find a decent head coach.

Too bad--another good coach

Too bad--another good coach who threw in the towel after putting up with too much $hit from the team parents.  Alan R got fed up with Boise last year and moved on to Meridian--it's amazing Blanchard lasted at Timberline dealing with the Williamses lobbying to get another one of their All American Loser sons a D-1 scholarship.  Are there even 2-3 qualified head coaches available in the TVLL?

Whats the beef?

I can say that T line had a very good attitude towards the teams they played this season, they were way more humble about their successful season than centennial ever was.

Not Always True

For the most part, I think all the teams in the TVLL handle themselves very well. Its a testament to the characters of the athletes and those who coach them. I haven't been following local lacrosse very long, so I can't say as definite fact, but I haven't heard of Centennial treating teams with anything other than respect. Timberline, largely has done the same. But I do have to give a strike against a T-Line player (who I won't name) who has been quoted on the website as calling competition "sub-par." I don't think that this is very humble (not that T-Line necessarily needs to be!) and I don't like it being stated in a public forum. I don't know if players from other teams have been publicly quoted in such a way. That said, I still think Timberline handled their very successful season in very professional manner and my hat is off to them!

really

i disagree.

i think both teams have shown great class in winning

Gettin kinda ugly here

A bunch of parents, coaches and referees (yeah I know who you are); and here you all are tossing around some ugly accusations so as to tarnish something a group of high school kids worked damn hard to accomplish.

They won it, fair and square.  It wasn't fixed, it wasn't a Williams conspiracy and it wasn't because of parents with fat checkbooks or anything else....guts and hard work by Timberline players and their coaches.  I congratulate them on their accomplishments.

Will it be repeated next year? who knows? that'll be up to the kids again and how hard they want it....or any other group of kids and how hard they want it.  The lesson to learn here is that hard work and competitive spirit pays off with a championship, not all teams are that dedicated, but on any given day any team in the valley can be beat, Boise showed us that with some great style twice and almost three times this year.

What Timberline did was outstanding.  I don't care about their parents or sponsors or their team representatives.  The kids did the work and for that they deserve respect.  They certainly have mine.  Congrats Timberline on a fantastic season.

hmm

it would be ridiculous to think that timberline won this year because of something other than them showing up every game and playing great lacrosse.  Timberline was by far the best team this year, they've been rebuilding ever since 06 after their ot loss, and it has culminated a quality team this year.  This all came through the player's hard work, not from anything else (parents etc).  I don't care how deep your parent's pocketbook is, you can always find a wall, a running track, play summer league/organize pickup games, and find a place to shoot.  Players are the only ones that can make themselves better.  Hopefully the rest of the league will be fired up in the offseason to dethrone the champs so that other teams put in the offseason and inseason work that timberline has.  When all teams, not just a couple, start doing this and raising their game, than we'll see more parity and talent in Idaho.

Maybe eveyone is just jealous

Maybe eveyone is just jealous because a team that suited up less than 20 players a game and started 3 freshmen managed to dominate the entire league.  Unfortunately, the overall level of high school play is not going anywhere in this town since way too much time and money gets wasted on high dollar "recruiting tournaments" chasing the pipe dream of NCAA scholarships for  kids with parents with fat checkbooks.

Jealous. Bitter. etc...  this

Jealous. Bitter. etc...  this is the standard line from a Timberline person when they hear criticism of their team.   A one year run doesn't instill the hatred or fear you think exists out there.  Centennial has owned this valley for 3 years and your team is a one year blip at this point.   You're ignoring the history which is your choice I guess but don't act so surprised that the rest of the valley sees the bigger picture.

And your second remark about travelling teams is so far off the mark it's not even funny.  Timberline's better players have been fixtures on the All Idaho teams as have many of the better players in the valley and they've improved because of those teams.  It's because the talent level here isn't that good yet that travelling to play better kids is why our better kids are improving.   The best teams and players must get out of the valley to see the level of play they want to be at.   It has little to do with college level recruiting except for a few parents with big dreams.  The rest of the guys will be happy to play club ball in college but they want to get alot better in high school which is why they're doing it.

It starts with the youth leagues.  Look closely at the U-11's, 13's and 15's at their registration numbers.  Then go watch them play, it's amazing to see the progress over just a couple years ago.  The U-13 better players have both hands already and that's better than many HS players in Idaho today.   Idaho lacrosse is making a fast transition to better play, much like Colorado and Utah did 5-10 years ago and it's because of the combination of youth leagues and travel teams in the offseason.
