NEB BOYS: Hot Goalie Leads Millard West Past Creighton Prep
April 5th, 2009
Senior goalie Ryan Grewcock saved 19 shots, including 13 in the second half, to lead Millard West to an 8-5 victory over Creighton Prep in a Nebraska High School Lacrosse Association game Saturday.
Junior attackman Carl Vennerstrom had a game-high four points on three goals and one assist, senior attackman Alex Myhre added three goals, and junior middie Cory Garlock finished with two points on a goal and an assist for the Wildcats (4-1), who have won three straight.
Junior attackman Connor Swanson had a goal to round out the scoring for Millard West, which avenged its only loss of the season. Creighton Prep came from four goals down in the second half to beat Millard West, 8-7, on March 21.
Creighton Prep (8-2) lost for the first time against a Nebraska opponent this season and had its 13-game winning streak against in-state competition snapped.
Millard West led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, 5-3 at halftime and 8-4 going into the fourth quarter.
“Today’s game was the first time we put together four solid quarters,” Millard West co-head-coach Kurt Carlson said. “The first time we played Creighton Prep, we had a great first half, but today we played a full game. All the kids played great, especially the defense in the second half.”
