LOU-TEX BOYS: Hillcrest Downs Loyola for 8th Straight Win
February 28th, 2010
Junior attackman Trevor Atkins registered a game-high five points on three goals and two assists to lead Hillcrest to a 9-5 victory over Loyola-Shreveport in a Texas vs. Louisiana interstate game Sunday in Shreveport.
Senior middie Luke Fechman added four goals, and senior attackman Kirby Ayers scored twice to help the Panthers (8-1) win their eighth straight and sweep their three-game weekend road trip to Louisiana. On Saturday, Hillcrest routed Collierville (Tenn.) and Captain Shreve.
The Panthers haven’t lost since a season-opening setback to Dallas Jesuit.
“Our players are tired and sore, but coming home with three wins makes for a fun bus ride,” Hillcrest head coach Bill Elliott said.
In defeat, senior attackman J.T. Terzia and senior middie Chris Volentine each scored twice for the defending Louisiana state-champion Flyers (0-2), who have lost their first two games against Texas opponents.
Loyola played Sunday’s game without senior face-off middie Thompson Barro, who was suspended after being ejected from last week’s season-opening loss to Southlake Carroll.
Hillcrest led 3-1 at the end of the first quarter, 4-3 at halftime and 5-3 at the end of the third quarter. Loyola never closed to within closer than two goals in the fourth.
“I’m just disappointed we didn’t have all our players,” Loyola head coach Mike DeVita said. “I’m looking forward to playing (Caddo) Magnet with our full squad.”
