WOMEN: Hawaiians Lead Pacific to Best 3-Game Start Ever

A pair of Hawaiian natives have the Pacific University women’s lacrosse team off to its best start in program history.
Senior attack Lilia Lee and senior middie Alana Kansaku-Sarimento combined to scored five goals to lead the Boxers to a 10-7 victory over Washington & Jefferson in an NCAA Division III game Wednesday night.
Lee, a native of Waimanalo, finished with five points on four goals and an assist, and Hilo-native Kansaku-Sarimento scored once, as Pacific (2-1) won its second straight. Freshman middie Savannah McClendon scored three goals, and freshman middie Monica Smith added a pair for the Boxers.
In a losing effort, Courtney Schrock scored four goals for Washington & Jefferson, which fell to 1-2.
The game was tied, 6-6, midway through the second half when Pacific went on a decisive three-goal run to take control. Kansaku-Sarimento scored the go-ahead go to put Pacific ahead to stay with 10:26 remaining in regulation.
With Pacific holding on to a 9-7 lead in the final minute, Lee fired home her fourth of the night to seal it.
This is the third year of varsity lacrosse at Pacific, and it’s the first time the Boxers have had a winning record through three games. In 2007, Pacific started 0-3 and in 2008 the Boxers started 1-2.
