Mercer Island senior goalie Hayward ‘Hap’ Giraud has committed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at the University of Vermont.
Giraud, the No. 14 ranked senior in the Western United States, said he also considered UMBC, Loyola and Drexel before settling on the Burlington-based school.
“I really liked the team structure and how the players got along with each other,” Giraud said. “I liked the way the Coach (Ryan) Curtis ran his practices, and I was most impressed with how the school treated its student-athletes and what it was trying to accomplish on and off the field with the lacrosse program.”
Giraud, who played his club lacrosse with the West Coast Starz, added that he is fired up to take his game to the next level.
“I’m definitely looking forward to the challenge,” he said. “I’m looking forward to competing in an environment to contribute right away, and I’m looking forward to working with other college players in the Seattle area this summer.”
