MINN HS: Hank Marotske Named New Breck Head Coach
February 25th, 2010
The Breck School has named Hank Marotske as the new head coach of its boys varsity lacrosse team.
Marotske, 34, recently relocated back to Minnesota from Boston. Before moving to New England, he was the head coach at the Blake School from 2001 to 2006 and led the Bears to two state championships. He also started the club-level Minnesota Elite Team, which he coached from 2004 to 2006.
Marotske played three seasons of college club lacrosse at the University of St. Thomas as a middie from 1997 to 1999. As one of his first acts as head coach, he hired MCLA Division II All-American Derek Michalski, who helped lead St. Thomas to a national championship last season, to be his defensive coordinator.
Marotske takes over for Chad Herr, who led the Mustangs to a 12-3 record last season. Herr has moved on to become the head coach at Wayzata, and Marotske is Breck’s third head coach in the last three years.
“They’ve had a team but not a program yet,” Marotske said. “We’re going to change the mentality of the whole school.”
