MEN: Gonzaga Tops Central Washington in Overtime, 6-5

February 14th, 2010

Senior middie Beau Davis scored the game-winning goal about midway through overtime to give Gonzaga a 6-5 victory over Central Washington in a Men’s College Lacrosse Association interdivisional game Saturday afternoon.

Davis quick-sticked a low shot into the cage from about five yards after he took a pass from sophomore attackman Kieran Campbell to give the Bulldogs (2-0) their second straight win to start the season. Davis finished with two goals and Campbell had a pair of assists for Division I Gonzaga.

Freshman middie Daniel Zimny scored a team-high three goals, and sophomore middie Mike Hilliard had a goal and an assist.

“It was a good way to end the first weekend,” Gonzaga head coach Ben Stein said. “It’s a big win, an exciting win. It’s always good to come through on the winning side of an overtime game. I was proud of the guys for fighting hard.”

Division II Central Washington (0-1) lost its season opener.
