National Tournament Results
Oregon's regional team played in a higher division than Washington in the 2009 National Tournament (they were formerly joined as the Northwest Regional Team in years past). Oregon beat Minnesota's top team in the National Tournament this year. I don't know if it gives any perspective, but Oregon's top team is #12 on this list, and Minnesota's top team is #6. Maybe the top team from Oregon should be higher, or the top team from Minnesota should be lower.
top 25 Ranking's Subject
How is the strength of schedule data computed in this ranking? It doesn't appear to have any input, as the Texas teams are included but have very low strength of schedules. This list appears to be very suspect of teams that don't play outside their low strength leagues. The West needs a good tournament to end the year on. I suggest a tourney in Las Vegas or San Diego polo grounds in May. Use the data from Lax Power in ranking the westside lax teams. There is no shortage of computation there!
West Coast girls Rankings - ?
National high school All-Star tournament last summer, didn't the NW team win that tournament? I follow New England lax, but not sure how you get these rankings when WA/OR girls beat all the other regional all-stars in the country (including our NE girls team).
The NW1 team won their
The NW1 team won their division in the tournament last year. I believe there were 6 or so divisions in the tournament, the NW team being in the lowest one. They were in a division with the Mid Atlantic 8 team, Great Lakes 3, New England 3, etc. Yes, they won, but they have a little ways to go to compete with the top dogs from the east coast.
Torry Pines Colorado Road Trip
RE: Torry Pines Colorado Road Trip
Torrey Pines travelled to Colorado without two key players: 1) their leading scorer, and 2) one of their senior co-captains.
They played on the road at a high altitude and lost their first two games by three combined goals.
It would be jumping to conclusions to say "apparently the California teams are just not on the same level."
It is a conclusion based on
It is a conclusion based on fact. Honestly two more good players may have made it less of a blow out but the outcome would not change. Based on what I saw the skill level is not there. They could have easily scored 30. The game was not as close as the score might have indicated and it was not really close. You can make all the excuses you like, "on the road, high altitude". They could have played this game in San Diego, probably would not have changed the ending.
You fail at analyzing
The fact that the altitude was so different DOES make a difference. Since girls lacrosse is basically about the better runners and sprinters, the different air pressures and oxygen levels at a higher altitude impacts that, especially when you arent used to playing in those conditions. Not to mention the fact that two of your best missing players gone DOES make a HUGE difference. I dont know either of the teams your talking about, but your 'facts' are wrong. You fail.
RE: Torrey Pines in Colorado
I won't take anything away from what's clearly a great Cherry Creek team, but would caution anyone to read anything into the other two close games. TPHS did beat a good Regis Jesuit (Denver) team 14-2 in SD back in March, so just maybe the outcomes had something to do with TPHS playing 5 games in 6 days with less than 24 hours to get acclimated to the altitude.
Torrey Pines in Colorado
Just for the record, Creek played 4 games in the same time period and it would be a stretch to say you beat a "good Regis" team. They are not top 25, not even close and as it turned out this year they were a team with a lot of internal turmoil with a couple of ther players quitting. Also a close game (loss) against Smokey Hill, same thing, they are not a top 25 team.
Just for the Record...
No one's arguing that Creek isn't a dominate team - Probably the best in the West. But, I do find it curious that the same Regis Jesuit Team you're so quick to eschew, beat Smokey Hill (17-16), and posted a respectable12-9 loss against Heritage in their Home State (and at altitude), when they couldn't muster but 2 points against Torrey Pines 15 points down at sea level. Let's face it. Once you get past the top 3-4 teams in either state, the rest of the top twenty are pretty much on par with one another. Even Air Academy wasn't all that Dominate against LaCosta Canyon at LaCosta Canyon. So cling on to your self-agrandizing if you must. Those of us with a little more common sense, know better.
