NEV HS: Palo Verde Names Gary Campo New Head Coach

November 23rd, 2009

Gary Campo has stepped down as head coach at Bonanza High School after leading the team there to three straight Southern Nevada league championships and taken over as head coach at Palo Verde.

Campo will also continue to coach the men’s MCLA Division I team at UNLV.

Campo takes over for Jim Kennedy, who last season led Palo Verde to a 14-3 record and a spot in the Southern Nevada Lacrosse Association title game, where the Panthers lost to Campo’s Bengals. Campo has taken Bonanza to the Las Vegas area championship game four straight seasons, dating back to 2006, leading the Bengals to titles in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

“We had a great run at Bonanza, and I loved the kids there, but they needed a different voice,” Campo said. “I was just going to concentrate on UNLV, and then the Palo Verde thing came up. It’s a great opportunity, there are great kids there, and we’ll see what we can do.”

Campo said his goal at Palo Verde will be to win the league title.

“From what I’ve seen in early practices, they’re ready to put in the work to be champions,” Campo said. “They came up short last year, but they’re looking to get the championship and I’m looking to take them there.”
