NEV BOYS: Galena Ends High Sierra's Reno Winning Streak

May 4th, 2010

Senior attackman Geoff Chrisman registered a game-high 11 points on eight goals and three assists to lead Galena to a 15-10 victory over High Sierra in a Tahoe Truckee Lacrosse Association game Monday.

Chrisman, who it is believed will become the Reno area’s first NCAA lacrosse player when he takes the field next season at Division III St. Vincent, could not be stopped. His big day led Galena to its first-ever win over High Sierra, as the Huskies lost for the first time in the three-year history of the league.

“He’s come alive for us as the year has progressed,” Galena head coach Andrew Haas said of Chrisman. “He’s a phenomenal player and a phenomenal leader.”

Since the official formation of Reno’s first high school varsity lacrosse league in 2008, two-time defending champion High Sierra had compiled a perfect 25-0 record. That streak came to an end Monday.

Senior attackman Austin Bayless added seven points on five goals and two assists, and sophomore middie Joe Rainoldi scored twice to round out the offense for Galena (5-5, 5-3 TTLA), which still trails High Sierra by two games.

Defensively, senior goalie Tyler Eckmeyer saved 15 shots.

In defeat, senior attackman Brady Murphy scored four goals for High Sierra (7-3, 7-1), which also had its seven-game overall winning streak snapped.

Galena dominated from the start. It was 3-1 at the end of the first quarter, 10-3 at halftime and 13-5 at the end of the third quarter.

“I’ve always had kids who’ve had the talent, and we finally came together as a team,” Haas said.
