NorCAL GIRLS: Foothill-Pleasanton Outlasts Menlo in OT
March 10th, 2010
It took the Foothill-Pleasanton girls lacrosse team 50 minutes to finally get it together Tuesday afternoon. And when the Falcons did, there was no stopping them.
Freshman attack Alexa Milus scored a co-team-high five goals, including three during a six-minute, non-sudden-death overtime period, to help lead Foothill to a wild, 19-14 victory over Menlo in a Northern California CIF intersectional game.
Junior attack Emily Klein had a team-high six points on five goals and one assist, sophomore attack Devon Lutz finished with a goal and three assists and junior middie Vicky Binder scored three goals, including a late equalizer to force the extra session.
Junior middie Catherine Keiner added three points on two goals and an assist for Foothill (2-0), which won its second straight to start the season.
In defeat, Georgetown-bound senior middie Maggie Brown finished with a game-high eight points on seven goals and one assist for Menlo, which fell to 2-2.
Menlo led 13-12 in the final minute of regulation before Binder drew Foothill level when she scored the game-tying goal with 25 seconds remaining.
Foothill then dominated overtime behind Milus, outscoring Menlo 6-1 over the final six minutes.
“We should have been playing like that the whole game,” Foothill head coach Ken Cuozzo said. “Our passing and catching was off all game and finally clicked in overtime.”
