March 27th, 2009

St. John’s senior Edward Williams has committed to play NCAA Division III lacrosse at Southwestern University.

Williams, a 5-foot-11, 245-pound attackman, is the first official recruit for the Georgetown, Tex.-based school. Southwestern will launch its NCAA-sanctioned program, and become the first varsity program in the Lone Star State, next season.

Southwestern’s team is presently ranked No. 12 in MCLA Division II.

As a junior, Williams scored 49 goals to lead St. John’s, which has started the season 8-2 and is ranked No. 14 in the West. Williams also considered Denison and Skidmore.

“You can’t beat being in Texas,” Williams said in a news release.
