MINN GIRLS: Eden Prairie Breezes into State Final
June 9th, 2010
Eden Prairie is one step away from its seventh state title.
Freshman attack Emma Claire Fontenot scored six goals with two assists, sophomore middie Christine Easton had seven goals and senior attack Blake Kist had two goals and five assists as the 10th-ranked Eagles breezed past Mounds View, 22-4, on Tuesday night in a Minnesota State High School League girls semifinal game. They will face Blake School, which beat Lakeville in the other semifinal, the state final Wednesday night.
Senior attack Maya Farrell and junior middie Taylor Uhl both had one goal and two assists, junior attack Allie Lacombe, sophomore attack Michelle Jamar and junior attack Ciera Stifel each had one goal and one assist and senior attack Mary Brigid Brady added two goals for Eden Prairie, which improved to 17-1 and ran its in-state winning streak to 32 games.
Eden Prairie head coach Judy Baxter said the Eagles’ game plan was to set the tone early. They certainly did that.
After Mounds View took early leads of 1-0 and 2-1, the Eagles then ran off 16 straight goals to take a 17-2 lead into halftime. With the state final set for Wednesday night – about 24 hours from the end of Tuesday’s game – that was key.
“Another part of getting ahead early was we wanted to rest our middies,” Baxter said. “And we were able to do that in the second half.”
