May 28th, 2009
Andrew Carlton finished with a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists to lead Eastside Catholic to a 13-10 victory over Redmond in a Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association Division II semifinal Wednesday night.
David Carlton added five points on a goal and four assists, and he picked up 11 ground balls, as Eastside Catholic (17-1) advanced to its first state championship game in just the second year of the program.
The Crusaders will face Overlake on Saturday, May 30, at Memorial Stadium in Seattle at 5 p.m., PDT to determine this year’s Division II champion.
“Our kids have dared to dream,” Eastside Catholic head coach Bill Brousseau said. “We used the analogy of climbing Mt. Everest. And now that the summit is in sight, we’re excited about the opportunity. The kids prepared well in the offseason, and it’s no accident we’re getting this opportunity.”
On Wednesday, Kyle Decker added four points on two goals and two assists, and Michael Rambaldini scored three goals for Eastside Catholic.
In defeat, Tyler Dougherty scored four goals for Redmond, which finished the season 14-2.
Eastside Catholic led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter and then blew the game open with a six-goal second quarter. The Crusaders led 9-3 at halftime and 12-6 at the end of the third quarter before Redmond made a late push in the fourth.
“We played a very strong game in the first half and came out very motivated and put the ball in the net,” Brousseau said. “We had a pretty good understanding about what Redmond was going to do.”
