WASH BOYS: DII Snohomish Upsets DI Seattle Prep in Opener
March 16th, 2010
Senior attackman Justin Jones registered a game-high five points on three goals and two assists to lead Division II Snohomish to a 9-7 upset victory over Division I Seattle Prep in a Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association game Monday.
Senior attackman Nick Hund added four points on two goals and two assists, senior attackman Ryan McAlister added a pair of goals and senior middie Nathan Wirtz finished with a goal and an assist to help Snohomish (1-0) win its season opener.
Sophomore middie Brandon Todd had a goal to round out the offense.
In defeat, sophomore Cassidy Miller scored a game-high four goals for Seattle Prep (0-1), which dropped its opener.
The game was tied, 4-4, at the end of the first quarter, and Snohomish led 7-5 at halftime. Snohomish scored the only goal of the third quarter to take an 8-5 lead, and after Seattle Prep pulled one back in the fourth, McAlister scored his second of the game off a pass from Hund to make it 9-6.
Miller scored his fourth of the day with 3:30 remaining, but that was as close as Seattle Prep could get.
“I’m pumped,” Snohomish head coach Christopher Sherman said. “Now, I’m refocusing for practice tomorrow. This win now means nothing. We’ve got 15 more games we’ve got to attempt to go out and win.
“Because it’s a non-league game, this win doesn’t count for anything. It just scares people.”
