NEV BOYS: DI Legacy Rolls Past DII Green Valley in Opener
March 17th, 2010
Senior middie Doug Calder finished with a game-high six points on four goals and two assists to lead Division I Legacy to a 16-6 victory over Division II Green Valley in a Southern Nevada Lacrosse Association game Tuesday night that was the season opener for both teams.
Junior attackman Nick Forte added four points on three goals and one assist, and senior attackman Wes Fonbuena scored three goals for Legacy, which knocked off a young Green Valley team playing its first game as a varsity program.
Legacy built a 5-2 lead after one quarter and took a 9-2 lead into halftime.
“We came out pretty flat,” Legacy head coach Andy Schwing said. “But once we picked it up and we started transitioning the ball well and moving it around on offense, I was pretty happy with the overall game.”
Sophomore Mike Telles scored a game-high five goals for Green Valley, and freshman Corey Ewing added one.
Schwing praised Green Valley, saying “they’ve got some talent that can move the ball around, and for a Division II team, they look pretty good.”
But Green Valley still has a ways to go.
“They were a much better team than we were,” Green Valley head coach Tom Mitchell said.
