AS: Dirty Dozen Downs All Idaho for 2nd Straight Win, 8-5
July 16th, 2010
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- Attackman Trevor Garner and middie Case Donahue each registered a co-game-high three points to lead Dirty Dozen to an 8-5 victory over All Idaho in an Adrenaline Shootout South Swell Group 2 first-round game Thursday night at Sonoma State University.
Garner scored two goals and added an assist, and Donahue finished with three assists, as Dirty Dozen (2-0) won its second straight to stay tied for first place atop the group standings. South Swell Group 2 has eight teams, and only the top two advance to the championship bracket, so getting early wins is crucial.
Six other players all scored once to round out the offense for Dirty Dozen, which is a hybrid team of players from Northern California, Southern California, Utah, Oregon and Idaho.
Middies Jack Cigliano and Abbott Pratt and attackmen Chase Brokaw, Kurt Pascoe, Kyle Baldassari and Chris Boland all scored once for the victors.
In defeat, middie Cody Cantrell scored twice, and midides Nick Cox and Dallin Wilkes each had a goal and an assist for All Idaho, which fell to 1-1. Attackman Jake Cecil also scored once.
Dirty Dozen broke the game open with a five-goal run over a 20-minute stretch. Cigliano started it when he scored his team’s second man-down goal of the game with 18 minutes to play in the first half to put Dirty Dozen ahead, 2-1.
By the time Garner scored his second off a feed from Donahue two minutes into the second half, Dirty Dozen had extended its lead to 6-1.
All Idaho twice closed to within three goals. Cantrell made it 7-4 when he scored with 11 minutes remaining, but All Idaho could get no closer.
“Just rooming together and going to meals together has really helped us,” Garner said of his team’s chemistry. “It’s easier to tell who’s going to do what based off how you know them. Everybody is a good player. We all know what to do.”
