August 22nd, 2009
Middie Josh Sims scored a team-high four goals to lead the Denver Outlaws to an 11-10 victory over the Boston Cannons in a Major League Lacrosse semifinal Saturday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Md.
With the victory, the Outlaws advanced to the MLL championship game for the second straight season and for the third time in the last four year. Denver will be going for its first MLL title Sunday afternoon against the winner of Saturday’s second semifinal between Long Island and Toronto.
Brendan Mundorf added three goals, Kyle Harrison scored twice and Jeff Sonke and Casey Cittadino each had a goal to round out the scoring for Denver.
In defeat, Matt Alrich scored four goals for Boston.
The Outlaws led 11-9 when Alrich scored with 1:09 remaining in regulation to pull the Cannons within one. Boston won the ensuing face-off, but failed to get a shot off on a fast break.
Once it got possession, Denver played keep away for the final minute and killed the clock.
