UT BOYS: Davis Upsets Viewmont in Season Opener, 11-8

Freshman attackman Dillon Yocom registered a game-high five points on three goals and two assists to lead Division II Davis to an 11-8 upset victory over Division I Viewmont in a Utah High School Lacrosse League game Tuesday.

Junior middie Taylor Wallwork added four points on three goals and an assist, senior attackman Luke Pettet finished with three points on two goals and one assist and junior middie Brock Beyer had three points on a goal and two assists to help Davis (1-0) win its season opener and beat a Division I team for the first time in program history.

Davis is just in its second year as a varsity team.

Senior middie Brandon Estoque also scored twice for the victors.

In defeat, senior attackman Colten VanTussenbrook and junior attackman Nate Ball each scored twice for Viewmont (0-1), which dropped its season opener.

Davis led 1-0 at the end of the first quarter, the game was tied, 2-2, at halftime and Davis led 8-5 at the end of the third. Davis then scored back-to-back goals to start the fourth to take its biggest lead of the day, 10-5.

“Our guys definitely played great,” Davis head coach Trevor Yocom said. “We fought hard for the ground balls, and I was impressed with our teamwork. We’re definitely learning.”
