ORE BOYS: David Walsh Lifts Tigard Past Sheldon in OT, 8-7
March 16th, 2010
Junior attackman David Walsh scored the game-winning goal about a minute into overtime to give Tigard an 8-7 victory over Sheldon in an Oregon High School Lacrosse Association game Monday night.
Walsh dunked his second of the game from just off the crease after taking a feed from sophomore middie Dange Wolf to give the Tigers (1-0) a dramatic win in their season opener.
Junior attackman Cutter Baldock scored a team-high three goals, and Wolf had three points on a goal and two assists to lead the Tigard offense. Senior middies John Sarvay and Matt Ferguson each scored a goal to round out the offense.
Defensively, senior goalie Mitchell Dean saved 13 shots.
Sheldon fell to 1-1.
The Fighting Irish led 7-6 in the fourth quarter before Baldock scored the equalizer after intercepting a pass with less than five minutes to play. Tigard had possession with a chance to win it at the end of regulation but couldn’t convert.
It turned out not to matter, however, because the Tigers took care of business in overtime.
“It was kind of a messy start to the season but a positive outcome for us,” Tigard head coach Grant Phillips said. “Both teams, I thought, played reasonably well for an (early-season) outing.”

Oh my goodness! an incredible
