TEX BOYS: Cy-Fair Opens Season with Win over Fort Bend, 10-5
Senior attackman Jay Bowling and junior attackman Matthew Mann each registered a co-game-high five points to lead Cy-Fair to a 10-5 victory over Fort Bend in a Texas High School Lacrosse League South District Division II game Friday night.
Bowling scored four goals and dished an assist, and Mann had two goals and three assists, as the Ironmen (1-0) won their season opener.
Senior attackman Austin Adams added a pair of goals, and senior middies Garrett Frye and Josh Lamarca each had a goal to round out the scoring for Cy-Fair.
Defensively, Southwestern-bound senior defenseman Mitch Lundquist picked up 11 ground balls and had three takeaways, and junior goalie Kevin Bush saved eight shots. Lundquist also had an assist.
In a losing effort, five players scored once for Fort Bend, which fell to 1-2.
In a game that was closer than the final score indicates, Cy-Fair led 2-0 at the end of the first quarter, 4-3 at halftime and 6-4 at the end of the third quarter.
It was a 7-5 game deep into the fourth when the Ironmen closed it out by scoring three in the final three minutes. Bowling gave Cy-Fair an 8-5 lead when he scored with 2:52 remaining in regulation, Adams made it 9-5 with 1:28 to play, and Bowling scored his fourth for the game’s final margin with eight seconds remaining.
