TEX BOYS: Coppell Wins 2nd Straight North District DII Title

May 2nd, 2010

Junior attackman Trent Dennington registered a game-high six points on three goals and three assists to lead Coppell to a 10-5 victory over Plano West in the Texas High School Lacrosse League North District Division II championship game Sunday afternoon.

Junior attackman Preston Allison added three goals, including two during a decisive fourth-quarter run, to help the defending Division II state champion Cowboys (15-0) win their 19th straight game and advance to the state semifinals for the third straight season.

Senior attackman Hayden Hawk finished with three points on two goals and one assist, junior middie Alec Lucas had three points on a goal and two assists and was key on face-offs, and sophomore middie Ryan Lambert scored once to round out the Coppell offense.

Plano West finished the season 8-7 and lost in the North District Division II championship game to Coppell for the second straight season, but the Wolves gave the Cowboys a legitimate scare.

Coppell led 6-5 in the fourth quarter before scoring the game’s final four goals to win going away. Allison had two goals during that critical stretch.

“Our team responded well when we needed to,” Coppell head coach Jared Venia said. “I give all the credit in the world to Plano West. Their goalie played out of his mind, and they had a great game plan.

“I can’t say enough about how hard our kids played, and how well Alec Lucas did at the face-off X.”
