Air Academy girls lacrosse
Air Academy girls lacrosse team is also the CHSAA Girls Lacrosse Academic Team Champion.
At last IÂ can reply to this.
At last I can reply to this. Consider the above a present from California basketball to Colorado and WSL. :)
I found another video. It has scoring plays from both halves. And another. And a third. And a fourth.
In 2004, CC went into the state championship game with a perfect record and defeated AA. This year, the teams switched roles.
BTW, a newspaper said AA's McLaughlin won state championships in 3 sports since last May. That must be semi-rare.
Maybe Air Academy will finally be spelled correctly in the ranking up top now. :)

Great result...for all the teams!!!
For all the teams that fought their way through their season and made it to the championship, they deserve our applause. The end result proves that anything can happen and AA played their game as they have all year. Job well done.
Congrats!
Way to go Kadets! Congrats on a great season and a fantastic game today!
predictions?????
ANY PREDICTIONS FOR TONIGHTS GAME???
creek v. AA @Barton stadiun (DU) 5:00
coin flip
I see CC as a slight fave, close enough that any goof or AA good play has the potential to give it to AA. Weather may have an effect, wet 'turf or lightning delays. Maybe CC by 1 or 2 at the half, AA narrowly takes the 2nd half, final of maybe 17-16 or 18-17 for CC. One rating favors AA. Another suggests CC in overtime. And then there's our favorite WSL ranking.
The DU webcam seems to be down for the day.
*tears up my prediction*
At least I got "17" in there. I've been rooting for AA all season, so I'm happy to be wrong. Great ride for CC which I'm sure will continue for seasons to come.
Wall Street Journal has an article today about the growth of western lax.
#10 AA girls soccer might pull off its own upset championship over a #1 team. It's 0-0 at the half... And nope, 1-0 final.

Team Name Reminder: Heritage-Littleton, not Heritage
All- Just a reminder and a sensitivity... its not the Heritage Eagles- the girls' team is a combined team called Heritage-Littleton, with a roughly equal number of girls from HHS and LHS each year. The H-L mascot is the Gryphon- a cross between an eagle and a lion. Thanks.
Thanks!
I've never touched earth in Colorado, just airport floor. I'm as clueless on CO high schools as I am on lacrosse. :) Cousins lived in Littleton in the 90's, though. I nearly dropped 'Denver' from Denver East. I shoulda taken that hint, but the mascot was doomed. I've been waiting for people to ask for a different color cuz I guessed a lot, or to say that Regis should be #2-tie, etc.
I think the edit link goes away after a reply. If I keep going, I'll fix it with the scores & drop all mascots if H-L doesn't fit on 1 line, or maybe I'll think of something else.
I was thinking a few days ago that schools could combine to balance out populations of the huge schools. One state combines up to 8 schools to make teams.
While I'm here, CC2 strikes me odd, cuz playing varsities could give Creek a development advantage. If its players lose varsity eligibility, nevermind.
CC2
Although CC2 does help in the develpoment of players, it also has its disadvantages. It is much harder to make the CC1 team. With so many players, it is much more difficult to make the top team. At any other school, most all of the CC2 team girls would be on their top team. Also, CC2 play some league games that count toward the CC1 record. Having 2 varsity programs has both advantages and disadvantages

Thanks Greg, for pulling it all together (seriously). Some say, "A win, is a win", but the scores also tell a story as the competition goes from sixteen to eight. should be fun. Congratulations to CA, Mullen, and Centaurus for stellar seasons that got them here. Keep your heads held high.
9 teams lose this weekend,
(Westside has Kent at 13-2, so I'm going with that.)
9 teams lose this weekend, but there are 29 teams sitting at home wishing they were one of the 9.
I got the info mostly from here. I just found a twitter account which might give instant notification when a score is posted to that website.
sportsmanship???
14 or 15 is old enough to know better- this goes right into the other comment about lack of respect for authority and each other......it has nothing to do with creek as a team--only that she was a creek player.........maybe all teams can use this for a moment to help thier players think about what being a team is all about and how to practice good sportmanship as we go into our final games.its only going to get more stressful on the player and parents....
Sportsmanship
Yes time to put this one to bed, not sure why you are making such a big deal out of an interaction between a teenager and adult. I doubt it is the first time a teenager showed a lack of respect for authority. If you have the need to continue the conversation why don't you find a message board related to adolescent psychology. Enough already before we start to wonder about you.
Probably time to close the door on this one...
I am believing that all the appropriate points have been made and we need to step back away from the specifics of the situation that started it. Even to the untrained eye, our athletes need guidance. As Parents, we are the front line - as Coaches, we are afforded a unique opportunity to add to what the parents have created. We can show them teamwork, trust, respect for the efforts of their opponents, and the pride that comes along with all that. Let's keep working to that end. As I said earlier...they're listening.
SPEAKING OF CREEK
Air Acad played Creek 2. not much of a GAME however i have to say We saw the worst sportsmanship out of one the Creek players this entire season. She stood just outside AA's gate to the field and was complaining very loudly to her mother about one of AA's players who she repeatly called a PUSS for all to hear then went continually on about another of AA's players size-......this same creek player recieved at least 2 yellow cards during the game. guess creek does have something they should work on at least with V2...even her Mom couldnt shut her up.
Honestly, you are talking
Honestly, you are talking about 14 or 15 year old girl. It is comical that you refer to this as a "Creek" problem. While her behavior was certainly inappropriate, it is not that unusual for a kids that age. Do you honestly think your school is immune to kids acting in this type of manner. Highly unlikely. Your comments come across as an attempt at a dig and are not appropriate for this forum.
The criticism was more about
The criticism was more about it not being handled, not that it was an exclusive problem to CC2. I don't know how valid the criticism is, either. The coach might not have been aware at the time and/or took care of it later for all I know.
It's bigger than Creek...
...and it's not a new problem. It's just unfortunate that the people who are in a position to do something about it don't. I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that when we were that age, if we had carried on in this manner we would have received the biggest smack-down of our lives.
It evidently has been forgotten that we are participants and NOT the reason for the game. The journey has been forgotten, or forsaken, for the end result or bottom line. I sometimes wonder whether we will, again, ever see the magic of a team that understands that points go on the board as a team, without the smash-mouth antics of the players, sideliners, nor spectators. It's sad, and will do nothing for the game nor the image of the game.
Unfortunately I don't see it changing anytime soon. We also forget that they are children, yes children, and they will take what they learn (or are allowed to get away with) from Lacrosse and apply it to life as acceptable behavior. For anyone who believes the two aren't connected, you're deluded.
I have the feeling that your comment was meant to point a finger at Cherry Creek specifically and I think that's unfair. And no, I have no affilitation with CC. I generally weap for the future of HS sports until someone has the rocks to put their foot down and reinstall general respect in this classroom. We are all teachers...and you know something...they are listening and watching. We need to ask ourselves exactly what do we want them to come away with.
Here's to the hope of an exciting and positive state finals.
It's been a gradual decline
It's been a gradual decline for 20+ years. Adults don't present themselves as old-school authority figures to children, so they don't see authority figures as authority. Years ago, I remember some NCAA basketball coach saying that he used to give his team an offense and they'd snap to it. But it changed to having to waste all kinds of time selling the offense to his team before he could teach it.
As to the incident, there are various reasons why players end up on CC2. You might have witnessed one of them.
The playoff bracket is at http://www.chsaa.org/sports/lacrosse/pdf/2009%20Girls%20Bracket.pdf
Bracket data...
thank you for this. I would love to see some upsets. And I guess we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed on the future and do what we can to keep it moving in the right direction.
For what a ratings system on
For what a ratings system on a short 15-game season is worth, laxpower.com's rating has the higher seed of each game winning throughout the playoffs. The bracket on the link back up there keeps getting updated as dates and times are set, btw. I'm just hoping swine flu doesn't cause huge delays or cancel the playoffs.
Ratings...Read into them what you will
As is, and should be, the case. Safety first above all else. If we stay conscientious and heed the advice of the medical community we should be okay. Crossing our fingers, for the superstitious in us, couldn't hurt either.
Now is the time for the teams, that have gotten the results to get them here, to stand up and be counted. Brackets are setup to allow as many teams as possible to test the big dogs. I, for one, am a believer in that old addage that states, "Any team, on any given Sunday, can beat any other team". This is the underdog prophecy. You find out which teams bring their game, can triple the mental stress, and still play their game.
When all the chips have fallen, you're still looking at a group (the entire bracket) that collectively are the best in Colorado. I draw no distinction between any of them in that regard. But for those teams that come up short in this competition we need to make sure they feel our respect. They've maintained their academics, practiced, and proven themselves worthy time and time again on this field of battle. They deserve our support and collective applause. I hope the stands are full.
Good point
Good point, I should have said, "favored to advance every game." Upsets happened on the boys' side.
Swine flu is much less of an issue since yesterday's announcement that this strain isn't severe. Most quarantined schools reopened today.
a gradual decline...
Not meant directly at Creek as your thinking but hopefully someone in a position to do so will point out to that young lady what a poor impression she made not only for herself, but for her teammates since it was pretty obvious the mother was not in control. In fact i believe there were a couple CC2 players looking at her the same way the rest of us were...that is something to think about why some end up on CC2---but i would think if its a behavior issue then maybe they should find a new sport.......per the coaching staff..
a gradual decline
I agree that this is not the forum to discuss the inappropriate behavior of a teenage girl. I would suspect you have other motives for making such a big deal out of it and suggest that your comments are not a topic worth discussing on a lacrosse forum as they come across as a personal statement against a school in general even if you did not mean it that way.
Colorado Girls Lax 2009
The seeding committee of CHSAA meets on Tuesday, May 4 at 8:00 am. The play offs should be known by them. 1 - 3 (Creek, Air Academy, Kent) are a lock. The rest should be interesting.
Seeding
Does CHSAA allow coaches who have a team in contention to be on the selection committee in all sports or just Girls Lax?
IÂ would think all sports, cuz
I would think all sports, cuz the committee ought to be set before the season starts. They'd know to keep track of teams throughout the season instead of getting it dumped in their lap just before the seeding meeting. In the sport I'm involved in (not in Colorado), they leave the room when their school is up for seeding.
