TEX BOYS: Collin Clark Leads Anderson Past Fort Bend, 12-4
Nazareth-bound senior attackman Collin Clark was in midseason form during the Anderson boys varsity lacrosse team’s season opener Saturday afternoon.
Clark registered a game-high 10 points on six goals and four assists to lead the Division I Trojans to a 12-4 victory over Division II Fort Bend in a Texas High School Lacrosse League interdivisional game in Austin.
“He’s a fantastic player,” said Anderson head coach Zach Kurzweil, who picked up his first win since taking over in the offseason. “He’s picking up where he left off last season. He didn’t play his best game, and he was still was able to put up some points.”
Senior attackman Trevor Sieracki added three goals, senior attackman Mark Johnson scored twice and junior attackman Jared Newburg had a goal to round out the scoring for Anderson (1-0).
Fort Bend (0-1) dropped its season opener in the first game of its two-game weekend Austin road trip. Fort Bend will face LBJ on Sunday.
Anderson led 2-0 at the end of the first quarter and 4-1 at halftime before closing the door with an eight-goal second half. The Trojans extended their lead to 8-3 by the end of the third quarter and cruised home during the final 12 minutes.
“We started off kind of sloppy, but I’m happy with the first win,” Kurzweil said. “We’ve got some stuff to work on in practice. We’re setting higher goals this season, and we’ll be back to work on Monday.”
