ORE HS: Cleveland Names Clayton Stearns New Head Coach

January 26th, 2010

Cleveland High School has named Clayton Stearns as the new head coach of its boys varsity lacrosse team.

Stearns, 35, replaces Scott Burns, who coached Cleveland to a program-best 4-13 mark last season. Burns will remain with the program as head assistant coach and defensive coordinator.

Stearns originates from Charlottesville, Va., where he played his high-school ball with Western Albemarle. After four years at the college club level with the University of Richmond, Stearns has played post-collegiate club lacrosse for the last 10 years in Portland. Most recently, he has coached in local youth programs and for the Cleveland program.

“I can’t wait for the season to start. Cleveland has every chance to establish a great program,” Stearns said. “Our conference schedule is always brutal, but I think we may be ready to turn some heads. I’ve seen our youth programs mature considerably over the last few years. There’s a lot of enthusiasm now in our community for lacrosse.”
