Senior middie Andrew Mower registered a game-high nine points on seven goals and two assists to lead sixth-seeded Chaminade Prep to a stunning, 14-2 upset victory over third-seeded Christian Brothers in a Missouri Scholastic Lacrosse Association Division I quarterfinal Friday night.

Senior middie Steve Dybus added four points on three goals and an assist, and senior attackman Patrick Anthon scored three goals to help the Red Devils (10-5) win a playoff game, beat Christian Brothers and advance to the state semifinals for the first time in program history.

“Our kids have been starting to believe the last couple games,” Chaminade Prep head coach Jason Seidel said. “I think, now, everybody else is starting to believe. It’s really starting to take hold what we’re doing as a team.”

Chaminade Prep will next face the winner of Saturday’s Eureka-St. Louis University Jesuit quarterfinal.

On Friday, sophomore middie Spencer Byrne scored once to round out the offense for Chaminade Prep.

In the cage, junior goalie Jonathan Duncan saved 12 shots.

Christian Brothers, Missouri’s preseason No. 1 team, finished the season 16-4.

The game was all Red Devils from the start. Chaminade Prep rolled to a 5-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and an 8-0 lead by halftime. It was 11-1 going into the fourth quarter.

“I’m surprised in our ability to contain them on defense,” Seidel said. “They really weren’t able to penetrate our defense.”
