LCC - one of the top teams in Nation...
Another national on-line lacrosse magazine is writing about LCC as one of the top teams in the nation and the writer even makes a case for LCC to be named #1.
LaxPower CCR...
Interesting that LaxPower's Coaches/Computer Rating (CCR) has La Costa Canyon ranked 13th in the country and Highland Park ranked #39.
Dear Nathan Max...
Dear Nathan Max...
new
You seem to be have been very biased against LCC all year long. You have also seemingly tried to justify your rankings of the top teams before Tuesday which was your deadline for the new rankings. i just need to know if your dislike of LCC is going to out weigh the argument of an undefeated season of 23 straight wins. A record of 16-2 just does not compare. Look; if Highland Park was 23-0 and LCC was 16-2, it would be a no brainer...the undefeated team gets the #1 ranking. So why are you even contemplating the outcome....clearly LCC deserves the #1 ranking in the West.
You're right
I have a personal vendetta against La Costa Canyon. That's why WSL spends more money to cover them than any other program, we write about them more than any other program and have bent over backward for the last 5 years to make sure their exploits are constantly chronicled.
Get a clue.
(By the way, in case you didn't get it, this is called, 'sarcasm')
You seem to be Maxed out
Nate, you gotta have thicker skin brother. You are a journalist and people are going to disagree with your opinions, your articles and your rankings. You should encourage the discussion whether or not the reader agrees or disagrees. Embrace controversy; it is good for business. Regarding your comments: You wrote about all the coverage you have given LCC through the years....the fact of the matter is that they are a high school lacrosse powerhouse. I was just looking at their win-lose record since 2005; they are 116-20...how can you not write about them? That would be like a baseball writer not talking about the NY Yankees. You also have to report on the players, but please don't take credit for being responsible for all their recognition. The top players on the West Coast have earned their right to be recognized by playing back east in numerous games, development camps, and invitationals. Nate, you are a journalist who has a great lacrosse site...lets leave it at that. Keep doing what you do best and let the lacrosse fans continue to write in without bashing them for it.
Nate, be the bigger man.
Nate, be the bigger man. People are always going to question your rankings. Its your site, your opinion. You're the one who covers every team and does this for a living. Your site has done a lot to cover the sport since you started it. Don't stoop down to this guys level and interact with him. Brush it off. If he wants, he can spend the time and money to create a site like this and assemble a team of people like you did and he can put whoever he wants at #1.
LCC #1 in the West???
LCC wins another CIF Championship and does it by winning 23 straight games! Those wins include wins over all the San Diego area lacrosse powers, Orange County teams, east coast teams, Northern California teams, and a Colorado team... I believe that if LCC had played Highland Park, TX this season the Mavericks would still be undefeated. LCC deserves to be named the #1 team in the West.
LCC-12 Torrey
LCC-12
Torrey Pines-6
Fantastic game by both teams. LCC just proved to be resilient and showed so much intensity, especially on GB's. Undefeated season, what a great way to go out for those seniors.
congrats to Torrey Pines
they played a great game last night - good luck in the finals
Final four predictions
Down to the final four with games tommorrow night -
LCC vs Poway - LCC wins 10-4 setting up the rematch with Coronado Saturay Night
Coronado at TP - Coronado won the first two playoff games by a combined score of 29-1 - they used 4 goalies in the first game.
#8 (Banks) is tearing teams up, and keeping teams from focusing on Englehart and Runyan - watch out for Flores and Bailey and the freshamn perkins seems to be getting a lot of good shoots.
Key to last game was two defenders for Coronado out - both are back and healthy and ready to go -
should be a fun rematch -
Coronado wins 9-2
Good luck to all teams - stay healthy
CIF Seeding
I don't know where you were getting your Seeding information from, but those seedings were completely wrong. They didn't even come out until Wednesday night. The top 4 are as follows:
1. LCC
2. TP
3. Nado
4. Poway
I would also watch out for #7 RB, they played badly vs Poway last week, but were 3-2 at half vs LCC and only lost 6-4 to Torrey. I believe they have a rematch against Poway at Poway next Tuesday for the quarterfinals assuming both teams win their first games.
Don't overlook Poway, either. Early season loss to Coronado off a few late man-down goals, and a horrific performance vs LCC. But solid performances in most of the other games. Very resilient vs Torrey.
Gonna be a crazy game next Saturday night.
Yeah, I was just going off
Yeah, I was just going off of what I was thinking the seeds would be. RB was going to end up with the 5 and LCC with the 1. 2,3 and 4 were all a toss up. I assumed Poway would go over Torrey because they beat Torrey. As confused as I am about the decisions made by the seeding committee I'm excited for the next week. winning 4 games in 7 days is tough. I think any of the top 4 seeds have a legitimate shot at winning it all this year. It'll be interesting to see Poway vs. RB in the quarters. That seems like its one of those game where records don't matter, its a dogfight because of the rivalry. Assuming the top 4 made it to the semis we'll have some interesting rematches with Torrey vs. Coronado and LCC vs. Poway.
San Diego CIF Playoffs
I too am a Coronado LAX parent; please don't base your opinions on Coronado's program, players or parents/coaches on some of the "cocky" comments previously posted by a couple of "excited" fans!
LCC, Rancho Bernardo, TP, Poway, etc., are all well coached teams with fine young men representing their schools / programs to the best of their abilities. We should be commending all SD LAX programs for exposing Southern California LAX to the National Level! Congrats to ALL teams having the honor of playing in the San Diego CIF LAX Playoffs!
Confident vs Cocky
The key to the Torrey Pines Coronado game was two of Coronado's starting D were out - they are both back and will be back for the playoffs. TP got a couple goals off rebounds in the middle - when Coronado has the tall 6'7 kid in there those are his, or he makes life very difficult for whoever tries to pick the ball up. Coronaod had to use two or three subs that may not see the field during the playoffs. Coronado Spanked Foothill OC - they were up by 4 and controlled most of the game - OC scored two late goals to make it 10-8. Foothill took LCC into OT.
Key point is it doesn't matter what happened before this Friday - now we start playing for real. Look at the NHL - you have the #7 vs the # 8 seed in one of the semi-s
playoffs
North County this, North County that, blah, blah, blah....
The regular season is over and no longer matters, what happens in the playoffs is what people will be talking about.
LCC or Torrey will have to face Coronado once again in the Semi Finals. There is nothing like being a favorite and having to play a championship caliber game in the semi's.
I've read a few predictions on the possible title game match-up and I think that you guys are using a defective eight ball. Shake that thing up again and you will see that Coronado will make it's third straight appearance in the championship game.
Mr Englehart sends.
Mr. Englehart, making some
Mr. Englehart, making some big promises. We'll see if Coronado can deliver, considering that they'll have the toughest road to the finals. Facing the #5 seed RB and then the #1 seed LCC. If you look at scores, which never really works, but is able to give you somewhat of an idea, Torrey beat RB by 2, and then turned around and beat Coronado by 1. If Coronado wants to get to the semi-finals, they can't afford to look past RB.
What is it about Coronado people always being so cocky? Is it something they put in the water on that peninsula?
Cocky or Confident?
I certainly meant no disrespect to the Bronco's. I know what you mean by the scores, but I don't put a lot of validity in that method. Coronado has lost some games by a point or two and we make no excuses for that, you lose and you move on and get ready for the next one. I think the top five teams have a legitimate shot at the title. LCC and Torrey are good, but not great.
We'll see how the seeding goes tonight. As for the cockyness, I like to think of it as confidence. Nado Lacrosse successfully competes with some of the largest schools in the county and has done so for some time. The coaches are top notch and the feeder program is solid. See ya in the playoffs.
rankings
Nice they update - but playoff time. Coronado beat Poway, Poway beat TP, TP beat Coronado. TP caught Coronado at the right time, two Coronado starters on D out - including the big 6'7'' kid that usually fills up the middle - couple goals off lose balls in middle - no disrespect to TP, they played hearts out, but doesn't matter once playoffs start and think the game would have been different if the two D starters (maybe one was D and the other the LSM that was also out). Looking forward to the playoffs and the seedings - should be some great games
From what I've seen,
From what I've seen, Coronado runs #9, Kodie Englehart with a pole on defense. The game may have been different had the two guys you're referring to were playing. But it kind of sounds like you're making excuses for Coronado's loss to Torrey. You can do whatever you want to try to justify that loss but the truth of the matter is that we'll find out in the playoffs. It should be an early season re-match with LCC as the #1 seed and Coronado as the #4 seed. That is, if they can get by RB, who should be #5, in the quarterfinals. Next week will be an interesting week.
No excuses
You're right, a loss is a loss, whether by one or ten. We could have played better. Torrey scored three goals in about 30 sec during our game and that solidified the outcome for them. Englehart hasn't played pole since the LCC game, an experiment that didn't pan out. The playoffs will be interesting indeed. I think the title is up for grabs between the top five.
Top 20 Update
WSL Boys, its time to update the top 20. Poway should definately be in the top 10, especially after beating Torrey Pines this week. TP has no business in the #4 spot....drop 'em down. You'd be well advised to drop Corona del Mar completely from this list as well....take a look at their weak schedule and do the math.
I suggest you review the TP-Poway game film before you...
cast a shadow on the TP ranking. TP plays Coronado and LCC this week so what really matters is next week's ranking anyway.
agree on torrey pines, not sure on corona del mar
TP shouldn't be up there...but CDM at least deserves to be in the top 20. In their section I think they should be below foothill-santa ana (they won in OT early in the season, but foothill got way better if you look at LCC score) and palos verdes. The only two teams they lost to are higher on the list so i dont see how you can drop them down below 20 having beat a few teams on the list
Thanks for the feedback
rb
how can rb even be considered a top team?
They lost to some weak team from the east coast.
weak east coast team...?
Remember; even a weak east coast team is better than some strong west coast teams...RB is a decent team and is very strong defensively.
they are #17...
that really isn't that high for just california
first
just thought i'd break the ice and be the first to comment on this
