MEN: Brothers Bolt NCAA Division I Denver for MCLA BYU

August 4th, 2009

A pair of University of Denver lacrosse players have decided to transfer to Brigham Young after taking two seasons off from the sport to participate on an LDS Church mission in South America, the school has announced in a news release.

Twins Jared Houghton and Jacob Houghton, who both played on NCAA Division I Denver’s 2007 team, will join the MCLA Division I Cougars in time for the 2010 season. The brothers did not play in 2009 or 2008, because they were doing mission work in Argentina.

“I’m excited to come to BYU and be able to play lacrosse for a great program and a great team,” Jared Houghton said in a news release. “I’m looking forward to having this great opportunity to come to this great institution and play lacrosse.”

The Houghton brothers are each 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, and both play middie. The brothers were three-sport varsity athletes at Rocky Mountain High School in Windsor, Colo.

“It’s going to be a great opportunity to play for a great program at BYU,” Jacob Houghton said in a news release. “I am excited to be a part of this great team and help bring national championships to BYU. It will be a great experience for the both of us, and we are excited to be here together.”
