LOU BOYS: LHSLL Playoffs: Brother Martin Crushes Catholic

April 24th, 2010

Senior attackmen Jordan Ramirez and Walker Kirkikis each registered a co-game-high nine points to lead Brother Martin to a decisive, 22-6 victory over Baton Rouge Catholic in a Louisiana High School Lacrosse League quarterfinal Saturday afternoon.

Ramirez scored seven goals and dished a pair of assists, and Kirkikis had three goals and six assists, as Brother Martin (8-3) advanced to the state semifinals for the first time in program history.

The Crusaders will next face St. Thomas More next Saturday, May 1, at 12:30 p.m., CDT in the first game of a doubleheader at Pan-American Stadium in New Orleans. The teams did not meet in the regular season, although they did play during the Sugar Bowl tournament.

“We’re looking forward to it,” Brother Martin head coach Billy Kirkikis said. “We think we’ll be a very competitive team with them this year.”

On Saturday, junior attackman Grant Rodriguez scored five goals, sophomore middie Donald Davis had five points on two goals and three assists and senior middie Taylor Eilers scored three goals. Senior middie Taylor Montney added a goal and two assists to the Brother Martin scoring parade.

Baton Rouge Catholic, which lost just 11-9 to Brother Martin in last week’s regular-season finale, finished its season 5-5.

Brother Martin took control from the start. The Crusaders led 6-2 at the end of the first quarter, 11-3 at halftime and 17-4 going into the fourth quarter.

“We’ve been working hard the last three to four weeks on our ground balls and clears,” Billy Kirkikis said. “Everybody seemed to be doing their role. We played a pretty complete game today.”
