SoCAL BOYS: Brentwood Edges Palisades Charter in Upset
Senior attackman Ben Green scored a team-high four goals and added an assist to lead Brentwood to a 10-9 upset victory over Palisades Charter in a Southern California CIF intersectional game Tuesday afternoon.
Senior attackman-middie Alex Kelln had a co-game-high five points on two goals and three assists, senior attackman Tyler Coleman added four points on a goal and three assists and freshman middie Mitch Kelln scored a pair of goals and had an assist to help Brentwood (2-0) win its second straight one-goal game to start the season.
Senior middie Evan Morris had a goal and an assist for Brentwood, which edged Culver City, 9-8 in its opener.
Palisades Charter (2-1), which pounded the same Culver City team by nine goals in its opener, had its seven-game winning streak that dates back to last season snapped.
Brentwood led 6-5 at halftime, 8-6 at the end of the third quarter and 10-6 after Alex Kelln scored his second goal in the fourth quarter before the Dolphins scored three goals in the final two minutes to close to within one. Palisades Charter’s last goal, however, came with just four seconds left, not leaving enough time to get an equalizer.
“We’re playing as a team,” Coleman said. “We’ve got a lot of talent this year. We’ve just got to come together and play patiently and smart.”
