TEX BOYS: Brandon Bonvino Commits to Princeton

October 30th, 2009

Dallas Jesuit senior defenseman Brandon Bonvino has committed to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Princeton University.

Bonvino said he also considered Villanova, Penn, Drexel, Loyola (Md.), Providence, Harvard, Dartmouth and Yale before settling on the New Jersey-based Ivy League school.

“I chose Princeton because it’s probably the best academic and the best lacrosse school of all the schools I had offers from,” Bonvino said. “Also, I really loved the coaches there.”

This will be a transition year for Princeton, which lost head coach Bill Tierney to the University of Denver. Bonvino said he got to know the new coaching staff when they were still at Drexel and stayed in touch when they made the move to Princeton.

Bonvino is one of two Texas-based players who have committed to Princeton. He will be joined by St. Mark’s senior middie Fred Addy.

“I’m really excited for the challenge to see how I can do and represent Texas up north,” Bonvino said. “Fred and I are going to be the only ones even close to being from the south going up there.”

Dallas Jesuit head coach Chris Surran, who played at Syracuse, said Bonvino has earned it.

“He is a hell of a player,” Surran said.
