AS: Brady's Bunch Downs Vegas Starz Elite in Semifinals, 10-4
July 19th, 2009
Brady’s Bunch is back in an Adrenaline tournament final.
After falling behind early, the team formerly known as the Wild Card Starz that is made up of players from Arizona, Northern California and Las Vegas rebounded to beat Vegas Starz Elite, 10-4, in an Adrenaline Shootout semifinal Sunday morning at Sonoma State University.
Brady’s Bunch/Wild Card will be making its fourth straight appearance in an Adrenaline championship game and its second straight title-game appearance in the Adrenaline Shootout. Brady’s Bunch/Wild Card is 1-2 in title games, having won the 2008 Adrenaline Challenge.
Next up for the tournament’s top seed will be the unbeaten, second-seeded San Diego Tropics, who routed the Arizona Starz, 12-2, in the morning’s other semifinal. Both teams enter the title game with perfect 8-0 records.
“We need to stop the Baum squad,” said Brady’s Bunch head coach Mike Wein, referring to Colgate-bound Tropics’ middie Peter Baum. “We’re going to try to mix up some defenses and show some looks that they maybe haven’t seen, possess the ball and try to beat them in a low scoring game.”
Vegas (6-2) scored early to take a 1-0 lead, but Brady’s Bunch answered with a four-goal run to take control. After Vegas pulled one back to make it 4-2, Brady’s Bunch scored back-to-back goals to end the first half and never led by fewer than three in the second half.
Vegas was making its first appearance in an Adrenaline Shootout semifinal.
“I was proud the way we played,” Vegas head coach Gary Campo said. “I just think we ran into a steamroller there. They wanted it more than we did. They’re on a mission.”
