May 21st, 2010
Senior attackman Sam Hardison registered a game-high five points on three goals and two assists to lead top-seeded Boise to a 15-7 victory over fifth-seeded Meridian in a Treasure Valley Lacrosse League semifinal Thursday.
Junior attackman Patrick Erstad and junior middie Sayre Thomas each added four points on three goals and an assist to help the Braves (15-2) advance to the TVLL championship game for the second time in the last three years. Boise will be playing to reach the Idaho state championship game for the first time in program history.
Boise will next face second-seeded Timberline on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., MDT, at Eagle High School. In the teams’ only regular-season meeting, the Braves beat the Wolves, 9-8, in overtime on May 15.
“I think our chances are good,” Boise head coach Sean St. Johns said. “If we have a game like we had today, we’ll do well.”
On Thursday, senior middie Xanti Tullis-See finished with three points on a goal and two assists, senior attackmen Mac Whibbles and Wyatt Soule each had a goal and an assist, and three others scored once to round out the offense for Boise.
Defensively, junior goalie Adam Litster saved nine shots.
In defeat, Erik Boschulte scored three goals and had an assist, and Austin Mendiola finished with two goals and two assists for Meridian, which finished the season 10-5.
Boise led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter, 6-5 at halftime and 11-7 at the end of the third quarter before pulling away in the fourth.
“It was the first complete game we played all season,” St. Johns said. “Second half was the best offensive half we’ve had all season, and we got the even scoring we were looking for.”
