The Bishop Kelly girls lacrosse team completed a perfect weekend by defeating Jordan in the championship game of the 10^th-annual Beetdigger Tournament in Salt Lake City over the weekend.

The Knights rallied in the second half to overcome the host Beetdiggers and secure the title, 10-7. It was the first time in the history of the tournament that a team outside Utah won the event.

“It was a total team effort. Everyone did their job, and that's what it took to win it all," head coach JoJo Brunelle said. "We played tough defense around the crease and goal, and offensively there was no single player for opponents to key on because we have so many threats.”

The main threat for Bishop Kelly was St. Mary’s-bound senior Cassie Brunelle, who scored 17 goals and added two assists in five tournament games. With the Knights down one at halftime, Brunelle took control of the final game midway through the second half, scoring three times to put Bishop Kelly ahead with eight minutes remaining.

Seniors Elise Talboy, Amanda Smith and Mariah Adcox keyed Bishop Kelley’s ball control, and goalie Kelly Grove saved 16 shots.

In the semifinals, the Knights beat Riverton, 7-5 and Jordan edged Bonanza. The 16-team tournament included teams from Idaho, Utah and Nevada.
