NEV BOYS: Bishop Gorman Rolls to SNLA Div. II Championship
Sophomore attackman Kris Kalkowski registered a game-high eight points on five goals and three assists to lead Bishop Gorman to a 16-4 victory over Palo Verde II in the Southern Nevada Lacrosse Association Division II championship game Friday night in Las Vegas.
Senior middie Jake Vukasin added four assists, and junior attackman Kyler Pollick scored three goals to help the Gaels (10-3) win the first lacrosse championship in school history. Bishop Gorman finished the season on a nine-game winning streak.
“It’s only our third year in the league, so to win this is a great achievement for the school and the program,” Bishop Gorman head coach Ian Devlin said. “These seniors have come far.”
Eight players scored once for Bishop Gorman on Friday, as the Gaels reeled off 10 straight goals in the second half after leading by just two at halftime.
Defensively, senior goalie Danny Sullivan saved 12 shots.
Palo Verde II finished the season 5-7.
Bishop Gorman led 4-2 at the end of the first quarter and 6-4 at halftime before the floodgates opened during the final 24 minutes. The Gaels scored four straight goals in the third quarter to push their lead to 10-4 before throwing home six more in the fourth.
“The defense played incredible,” Devlin added. “That’s where we got our offense from.”
